We had tents that you could roll the sides up.

Got sunburned.  Well, maybe not in Jolly Old England, or here in the US Pacific NW.  The first guy got it right, "Got wet."   O0

Seconded.  Still works.
I take little pleasure in deliberate discomfort.  Way back, when I had a bike (pre learning to drive) there was a bike bits catalogue called "Holdsworth bike riders aids", which, apart from gears and handlebars and such, had the specialized apparel.  In the illustrations the guys in the capes always had a happy smile with the rain lashing down on them, which never struck me as sensible, and confirmed my opinion of my PE teacher who insisted that "enthusiasm" was a vital part of existence.  He was always frustrated by my inability to run in a circle when considered alongside his inability to keep pace with me on my bike when I was heading home for lunch.

It's easy, if it's rains you retire to the pub.
If it's hot you retire to the pub .
If it's sunny you retire to the pub.
If you had a good day and your boat went well you retire to the pub.
If you had a bad day and your boat stopped , blew up or sunk you retire to the pub.
cheers, the next round is on you.

Wizard, your recipe is often applied by the Como Lake Model Yacht Group in British Columbia.  Sometimes when it's wet and cold we just skip the lake and boats and go directly to the pub.   O0

Gosh and Golly......you guys going on about "pubs". Yes, there were plenty of them, but because of the licensing laws the hours they were open (11am - 3pm) meant getting wet most of the time. Unless you worked in the bits of London where pubs were open for the night shift workers. BY.

In an emergency, there is always the cheap booze aisle in the supermarket and a large cardboard box....

The pubs open at 1100 on Sunday over here in British Columbia, too.  Us Como Lake guys solve that by starting our boating around 0930, so by the time the batt'rys are wearing down, it's time to hit the Frog or Rhino's pub for a cold one.   :-))
