Submarine Rescue
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:09:16 pm »

Just watched a programme on submarine rescue, (on the Discovery channel), showing how the worlds navies now cooperate as part of an actual sub rescue.

Interesting to see how different navies demonstrated these highly specialised disciplines, from scuba & hard-suit diving, the floating trauma unit air dropped from a C130 and the SRV itself.

It finished off with the 'rescue' of a Spanish submariner from his sub, into the SRV, back onto the support ship, and transfer from the SRV directly into a hyperbaric chamber.

Anyone else watch it??

Mark.

PS - sorry mods, wasn't sure where top put this {:-{

As far as I know the RN still holds the record for a suited free ascent from (I stand to be corrected here) 615 feet (or thereabouts) it was from an O boat whose name escapes me!

The last real 'twill trunk' escape for the RN occured when HMS Artemis went down alongside at HMS Dolphin.

Until the demise of the RMAS, a Sal class (in this pic the Salmoor) was used regularly to exercise the UK rescue craft with a Nato SSN.
