« on: August 24, 2012, 02:15:26 pm »

hello guys this is my first post so i'd best introduce myself, i'm smash, a long time nitro and brushless truck basher, just gotten into the whole boat thing and i'm having a good time of it so far.. just joined my local club which is great yarmouth model boat club. I'm currently running a little turnigy centurion brushless same as this http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__20364__Centurion_Mini_Brushless_Catamaran_Boat_450mm_ARTR.html and would like something a little larger, just been on to r2hobbies site and seen the following items and wondered if some of you more experienced guys think this will work as a set up.. obviously i want to make sure its a goer as the order is coming from hong kong and this will be the first artr ive put together..

thanks in advance for any insight

Welcome.

I like the look of your first boat not to sure about the other, what are you planning on doing with it are you going to race?
Other than the looks it should go very fast with the running gear you are looking at to.

Id pay the extra few quid for the 120A as Chinese amps are notoriously smaller than European ones

As for the company I bought one of their RC planes and it was top notch for the money (son is currently training with it)
http://www.r2hobbies.com/4-channel-rc-41-ep-cessna-balsa-wood-built-scale-plane.html

And I have this one to build when I get around to it
http://www.r2hobbies.com/4-channel-rc-ep-31-0-balsa-wood-bi-wing-pitts-scale-plane.html

Delivery took around 10 days on both occasions with items arriving well packed and double boxed (outer box was made from 5mm foam board which has come in handy)

LOL yes it is... If you haven't already bought the motor drop me a PM I have one of those motors from my Trex 500 that I upgraded
Word of advice tho... run it on a watercooled mount as they do run quite hot

Also you are going to have a shaft speed of around 35,000rpm give or take a few hunred rpm unless you are gearing down the motor thats quite a lot of revs

Essex2visuvesi is correct you would do better getting a bigger amp esc, i am putting this esc on my boat.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160586031406?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649#ht_2257wt_1111

and i am going to run it with this motor,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140750233496?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

and power it all with,

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270994979649?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2648#ht_2054wt_1344

do you have any experience with those perticular esc's? I had one similar but un branded, it had programming issues.

Heya guys thanks for the replies, you reckon that's a bit much for this hull then? I'm keen to learn about brushless setups in boats as I only have my truck applications as reference, the hull is as near as damnit a clone of the dragon sword http://www.elitemodelsonline.co.uk/Products/Boats/ALL-RC-BOATS/6339-/DRAGON-SWORD-570EP-50A-BOAT-RC-READY and that runs a 50a esc and a 2600kv motor so I was assuming this setup would work out almost identical, if I'm way off the mark what would you recommend?

Cheers

In a 450mm boat that thing is gonna fly!
My only concern would be weight

I used the earlier version of that align heli motor, 1620kv, but the longer can, geared 2:1 as I needed less revs and more torque to drag 7kgs around the lake, as said prev, it ran hot and needed very efficient water cooling, it was on 6 5000mah lipo cells, it was great, and sounded sweet!

On a smaller boat it will be dangerous!!! :}
