Great build bud. I will be watching the rest of your build with interest as i am thinking of getting one my self.
On our rock we have a couple of Maggie M's and a couple of Our Lass's and Our Lass is in my opinion is the better of the two.
This picture was taken up at the Llion Park Jersey by a JMBC member.

Nice picture my friend, My son is RJR who has a thread on here with the Maggie M, so some time in the future we will have our own picture of these two great Model Slipway kits.
Thanks for the encouragement.

i have one too and they are really good kits, great model in the water too, i have built 2 nets the same set up as the real boat would use and tow them around the river  that flows into our harbour, catch lots of small fish and shrimps, good in rough weather too, had my one in the sea a few times leaping out the water!

yeah, handle alot of waves, there really good stable models, ive had it on its side when towing the nets after they snagged the bottom, let them slack and took a run up n snatched tight, was over to the white shelterdeck and still too no water inside

Yes very nice Manx Venture, but I'll be quite happy on our Lake thank you!.

tI've been taking note of the excellent review of the "Our Lass 2"  by Terry Small in the Model Boat magazine, Scale Special Edition 2010 which I was able to acquire from a club member before starting the build

I've got this far and still undecided whether to go down the road Terry took, ie  spray up the platforms and fix them afterwards or fix them now and mask up and spray later?

Hi Spud
I will be using the 900 motor that I bought from Model Slipway with the kit, two M'tronk's ESC and a 12v battery.
As you can see from previous pix's, I shied away from the idea of milk bottles filled with pond water, too toxic for my liking, after discussions with RJR (Son) he came up with a sack of vertical window blind weights and after making a trough each side of the hull (see previous pix's)  found the weigh sat lower down in the "V" of the hull than milk bottles would anyway. So after weighing full bottles of water and equal window weights looks nice and tidy, whether it works as yet to be seen!!
Standard set up really, nothing fancy, but I've had no problems with any Model Slipway kits in the past and this is my fourth.
Hope you get your boat sorted to your liking soon.
Cheers Duckie

hi spud, i have the model slipway 900 motor too, mtronix 25 speed controler and acoms reciever n servo and a 12v battery, no bow thruster, model dosnt need it, even towing 2 nets it turns well so nice n simple! electronics not my strong point! I use removable lead and steel weights placed in the hull for ballast and have cut an extra hatch infront of the wheelhouse for easy acces to ballast and batteries, must b a nightmare trying to put batteries and that in thru the wheelhouse hole, makes model easy to transport and carry with removable ballast, will take a few pics of my set up if you need them

Hi Duckie / Manx venture
Thanks for the info ,
I only ask because I fitted the speed 900 but found it too fast so I changed it to a 775 which is now abit slow (I might change it back)
I’m also using mtroniks speed con’s 25amp for the drive and 15 amp for the bow thruster , did your motor or speed get hot after sailing in those conditions ?
Cheers

hi spud
no, not overly hot anyway, speed controler and reciever are as high up as possible in the hull aswell so kinda keeps itself cool, the motor gets hot to touch but not worryingly hot, even when dragging 2 nets behind it it stays same temperature, couple pics atteched showing this plud the extra hatch i put in

Thanks for the pix's Manx, that looks very good, I don't think I'll be having any problems with loading the weigh's in but will keep it in mind for a later date, son John (RJR) took your advice earlier and cut an extra hatch in his "Maggie M"! And it's made all the difference to his model.

Over the past few days as well as going out and about, I've been doing a little bit more on the wheelhouse mast!.

The last post showed the main structure of the mast and I thought that was about it, not a bit of it, there are 40 fiddly bits to make up and fit together after that stage
Here are all the parts of the mast I've made up.

The instructions were all very clear as usual on this kit, oops hope I haven't I spoken too soon!.

See back of top picture.
This radar part in two halves as you would expect is vac formed and I don't know about anyone else but I find it hard to stick together two parts that are so thin, so I came up with a cunning plan as Baldrick would say, cleaned up the top half and then stuck it to a thin piece of scrap plasticard, cleaned that up and then stuck the bottom half to the scrap piece, Job done and quite a lot easier than usual.
Just have to paint the parts and assemble the lot together now.

Hello Duckie
Your assembly of the radar dome is indeed......A cunning plan!
I would probably have given up and turned a wooden one on the lathe!

I had a similar problem, glueing the cowl vents together on my Glasgow build, I used a wooden plug inside
This can be seen in "Eureka Moments" in the Modelboats Magazine website

Nice build, keep up the good work

This week been out and about, but yesterday whilst waiting for Brit/Gas to come and service the central heating I did some of the pulley blocks I've been putting off because they are so fiddly!.
So I've done a few of them and as usual they were not as bad as I thought.

The boom winch.

Showing scale of things.

Wheelhouse front and rear pulleys 2.

Deck side pulley boxes 2.

Foredeck corner pulley 1.

Wheelhouse rear tall pulley box.

And here they are cleaned up and all ready for painting, did I say all?, that's wishful thinking perhaps, as there are quite a few more to do.
Still its all nice useful deck clutter isn't it, I was at Colwyn Bay club regatta in the Summer and saw a OL2 there and I think it belonged to Stavros, was very impressed with that and took quite a few pix's of it,  couldn't see how he'd made the gadget in the clump recess, believe it's for spreading the nets whilst trawling?,  perhaps if it is his he could put a more detailed picture on here for me?

On my last post the minimalist writing should read.
Whilst at Colwyn Bay Boat regatta in the summer saw a very nice OL2 which I was lead to believe belonged to Stavros? I took quite a few pix's of it, but still can't fathom out how he's made the gadget in the Clump Recess perhaps he could post a better picture than I have of it here for me, that's if its the same Stavros thats a member on this website!
I believe its for keeping the nets apart in the middle whilst trawling two nets.
