USS Lionfish SS - 298
« on: August 10, 2012, 09:57:52 pm »

Well those of that you missed the Norwich meeting will have missed the first official "show/display outing of my newly completed 32nd Parallel 9ft 9" Balao class submarine the USS Lionfish.

She weighs 95lb or 41kg, uses 20 channels  - the transmitter used is the Futaba 14mz
The boat sis split into 6 sections - 3 hull sections - forward WTC , 15 litre Ballast tank, stern wtc - each WTC is totaly independant of the other as they each have their own 14 channel rx, 8 channel decoder and own 6 volt battery supply.
The deck is split into 2 section with the conning tower and guns all fitted on top

I bought the hull from Ron Perrot back in 2005, he brought it over form the USA back in the mid 80's as he was the UK 32nd Parallel importer. He had done quite a bit of the tower and the guns, but thats as far as he got, i got a phoncall from a friend saying "did you still want a gato". I thought it was going to be an Engel, as that was going to be the best i would get, "no my friend said it was a 32nd Parallel hull", that was it i had to have it all 9ft 9" of it!

I did not touch it for a year or 2 as i had other things to deal with at the time, but from 2007/8 onward i did a bit here and there, then in 2009 was divorced and almost homeless, but i salvaged the gato hull and parts from this, met my new wife, got a home, settled down and finished the monster this year!

Theres still a few thinsg to do in it, such as small scale detailing, but thats it.
