The modelsounds unit is really a background sounds generator... -
there is no link to the receiver or ESC so the sound won't reflect the throttle setting.

Have a look_at/listen_to the list of sound files you can buy and load into the unit

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The best sounding engine simulators I've come across are the Technobots
ones which seems to use a sampled output for the engine sound generation.
there are diesel, petrol and steam single sound units,
http://www.technobotsonline.com/petrol-engine-sound-simulator.html
http://www.technobotsonline.com/steam-engine-sound-simulator.html
one that contains all three
http://www.technobotsonline.com/combo-engine-sound-unit.html
and a petrol/diesel programmable unit which has loads of programmable options
and a horn output ! (but no bells and whistles ?!#)
Reasonable price, portable and sound good but not proportional . The sound is broadcast quality audio as the guy that does them is a sound engineer and works in the TV industry.
I like the Technobots ones but they seem very sensative to input voltage and no 'big engine' sound or USB updateable.... but not bad for £30!
These sound units are proportional and are desgned by Alan Bond a member of SRCMBC.
These were on sale at the Boat Convention, I thought for a 1 sound unit it sounded very good.
Hopefully the post was removed in error !.
I did not see this thread before the Tidy up.
In My opinion For the price and compactness as is all self contained I think the Model Sounds unit is a nice peace of kit. However if you need something that gives more control , Ie can turn on/off with your tx m multiple sounds on 1 unit then from what I have seen and heard at shows the Action Noisey this is the way to go.
I saw it, heard it, and for the price couldn't fault it.
Did I buy it? ......... No, but that is only because I haven't looked around yet.
I think the little unit has a lot going for it
Given the choice and I have tried quite a lot of the sound units in my time and I must agree with Unrecognisable Andy on this one,if I had to reccomend or Buy another then it would have to be ACTion..........why IDIOT and STAV proof
Before this thread is shut down, I have three Noisy Things & they do everything I want & more than I am capable of progaming them to do. The unit that raised the question seems well made but where is the control ?. Will the engine sound increase with the throttle stick, can you sound the whistle at will, can you work the fog horn when you want, can you set the start & engine shut down, if the answer to all these questions is NO then all you got is a miniature tape recorder & we are just comparing apples & oranges. For the price some will be happy with it but it is no Noisy Thing, they are totally different animals. Lets all be nice to each other & buy what suits us & soon I will buy another Noisy Thing & know I will be happy with it because I found nothing on the market to equal it & I am spending good money to buy it.
'we are just comparing apples & oranges'
To be honest Mick the thread is 'another new sound unit' and there was no need to add the oranges at all.
The units good and bad points could certainly have been discussed simply in its own right.
The guy demonstrating it was very honest. Not only did he describe the good points but also the limitations.  Basically if you had a few average boats and wanted a cheap way of adding sound then this is the way to go because one unit does all your boats. If you have invested a bit more in your boats and are happy to kit them out individually then it isn't the way forward ........... horses for courses Mick.
You will remember that I said good things about the little unit but then did not purchase one - I will almost certainly get the more expensive branded unit to match my particular boat. I can make that considered choice  and still be very happy for others choosing to travel the cheaper route.
While I am grateful to the members who have (once again) been complimentary about our P100, it is true that there is no real comparison between that and the Master Blaster unit. The latter is, as has been said, a background noise generator while P100 is a 'sounds on demand' device which can be controlled from the transmitter. If you want the sound of a pipe band or a jazz band playing, or wall-to-wall seagulls then buy a Master Blaster. If you want a lifeboat engine sound with startup and throttle variation then that unit won't do the job. Horses for courses.
I should point out, for anyone who's in any doubt, that trade members of the forum have no more influence on the moderators than any other member. Furthermore, if a complaint is found unjustified then the moderators are at liberty to leave the post in questiion as it stands. I don't view a debate which concerns the merits of ACTion products vs any other manufacturer's units as my province - unless and until something is said which is technically incorrect or, as in this case, personally offensive.
I'd like to wish Mark Thatcher well with his enterprise and look forward to seeing him at a future show. There's room in this hobby for all - except perhaps those who have an alternative agenda e.g. to poison reputations and trash products for their own perverse pleasure.
As said previously, you buy the unit to match your model. I have a JJC Petrol unit ( still working!!! ) in my Orca, A Technobots Petrol unit in the CHANT, am soon to approach the challenge of sticking jeep noises on an Action P100 for the bears and am looking at this new unit previously mentioned, to put background sounds on for Nautilus when on static display. I also have a german unit for a 1/6 scale Tiger Tank which, when waterproofed, will be going in a sub.
 However the best way to simulate gunfire effects still seems to be black powder!
( or something like it anyway....... ;) )
Hi all, the reason for my remarks were that I felt it was turning into a debate on the pros & cons of sound units, sometimes discussions that take on a tone like that do not treat all the units on an equal footing. I had reason to buy a sound unit (in fact three) & felt that it was only fair to those that may also be contemplating buying one too should @ least have some of the differences pointed out, Mick B.
As an aside, I had a phone call from Mark Thatcher this morning after the most recent post I'd made. He has been following this thread. We had quite a lengthy chat and he is in total accord with what's been said about the differences between the Master Blaster and the P100. He certainly knows his own product and has taken the trouble to find out about ours. We also discussed other similar devices................but let's not go there!
Mark and I have readily agreed that we will refer to each other's business any customers who really need a product which the other supplies. There is no competition so why shouldn't there be cooperation? That way everyone's a winner.
All in all a very satisfactory conclusion.
What a nice bit of news for a change, after all most wars are finally settled with the stroke of a pen & a bit of paper. I agree with Dave & Dave that it gives us all another option which can't be bad for our hobby & we should be grateful when trades & individuals spend their hard earned cash making new products for our hobby without any guarantee of success. It is nice to see coperation between companies, it bodes well for us all. Mick B.
To Dave (Norseman) I agree about apples, I lived in Sumerset for awhile & have nothing but nice things to say about the way they used apples, the cider would make the hair stand up on the back of your neck & elsewhere too, LOL. Mick B.
