12v or 6v motor for "Maggie M"

Hi all,what would be best suited a 12v 0r 6v motor to power the "Maggie M",
i was going to go for 6v but someone recomended 12v for Reggata Courses and
if it was a little windy,what do you guys think.

I ran with six volts in models for years.....no probs................then changed to 12 volts and have been running (again) for some years..........again no problems.........
I think it's just purely a matter of  personal choice, although I will say that with the highter torque slow revving motors that I use in my lifeboats, I do get a better ESC speed variation when running on 12v, as the motors will react a little better with higher volts........mind yo THIS IS only my personal choice through experimentation, as I know as much about electrics and electronics as I do about quantum physics....... %% %% %% %%

I run my Maggie M on 6 volts and it works for me.

Haven't tried it on 12 volts.

I do not want to plane around the lake i just do not want to be
under powered, and to be able to get out of trouble if the need is called for.

sorry to say, but this does not really have anything thing to do with 12 or 6 volt motor...!!! i can plane around a lake with 3 volts, if you find a 3 volt motor that does 40ooo Rpm..

all you require is a low drain (amps) and high torque (Watts), with a multi commutator (more than 5) this will give you lots of running time, reasonable power, and very good control at low RPM, now whether the motor is 6 or 12 Volts, that would be entirely up to the Builder, and space available in the Model...
the Maggie M has lots of room, so a big batt (Amps) is easily accumulated, this big batt could have 12 volts..  {:-{

The choice of voltage is affected by
1/ the voltage of the motor chosen
2/ the voltage of the "extras" fitted
3/ what you prefer
There will be little difference in either running time or controlability between the two provided that the motor and battery voltage match in either case.
Most modern ESCs are just as happy with either, for the same power from the system, a higher current rating for the lower voltage might be needed.
A lower voltage battery can, for the same weight, have a higher AH rating, whereas for the same power, the higher voltage battery will not need to deliver the same amps.
In theory, the higher voltage can use lighter wire.  In practice, it probably won't.
