HMS DARING - SOME HELP PLEASE
« on: May 09, 2007, 08:48:29 pm »

Hi all

There are two objects either side of the range finder (port and starboard side of the bridge).

Ive spoken to PShips (Paul) and we both seem to think the same, that they are some form of binnocular/telescope stand INDICATED BY BLACK ARROW ON DRAWING.  Can anyone confirm this?  Also, does anyone possess any drawings or closeup photographs of these stands?

Hi John,

Can't help directly, but I did find this website http://www.axfordsabode.org.uk/daridet.htm. You could try emailing the guy to see if he can help, especially as he was a signalman on the open bridge!

John,
They should be "bearing rings".
basically a pair of binoculars on a graded ring for taking long range bearings.
