Hi all Long time no see.
The Nameboard is securely bolted to the side of the bridge. The crest only slots into the points to hangit and is removed and placed inboard while at sea. They are also used during ceremonies and stuff so all the more reason for them to be portable.

  Hello again

Thanks for the lesson. I had a side question for you all. My memory is poor so I need your help. There is a Gentlemen in Australia who makes Excellent fittings for the Armidale class ships, I think he also makes some fittings for the Freemantle class as well. He also makes hulls But because of the costs involved the hulls don`t get shipped too much over seas.

Could someone post his name here and how to contact him. I know he sells the fittings still, I just can`t remember his name.

 Thanks for the help.

Also Steve Batcheldor ('sjbatch' above) does Armidales. I got my 1:50 hull, Plans, RHIBs, Domes and liferafts from him.  He also does some 1:72

Hi George.
RE: Does anyone know from whom I could buy a Crest.  there is a category on E-Bay for ships crests collecting if you get on to OZ E-bay, you may find what you are
looking for there though I would start with UK E-Bay its quite surprising what turns up there.  You can look under ships crest, ships plaque, & ships badge.
Recent addition to my collection pic.

I have put up some urls for badges you just click on them to go to the site  go  to the E-bay sellers shop and see if he has what you are looking for there or mail him to ask if he can
       supply.

  Hello

Thanks to the UK member for the tip. Dumb question, would those crests be in 1/72 scale or can they be bought in that scale, if you know.

 Thanks Again

Hi George

Steve here, I got your message and will answer soon.

It is unlikely that you will get a commercially available ships crest for the Wollongong in 1:72nd scale. At this scale the crest would be quite small, about 10.5mm high x 8.6mm wide and the rope circle in the center would be less than 5mm diameter. You are not going to see much detail at this size.

You are probably only going to get something the right size if you make it yourself. A photo or drawing program on your computer should allow you to shrink a larger crest (from the RAN web site) to the appropriate size. I would then just print a few copies onto plain paper, cut around them, coat them in clear varnish and stick them to your model. You may need to experiment with printer settings etc until you get something that is acceptable.

  Hello hmsantrim

Thanks for the tip BUT I think I did not explain myself to well. I was looking for Two Crests in 1/72 scale of Wollongong (if spelled correctly), one for the Freemantle class and the other for the Armidale class. I anyone can make one of each for me, I will pay them for them. Looking for Good sharp detail not just a shrunken picture on line with dull details.

Please let me know if anyone can help me with this.

 Thanks Again for your help.

George, as Derek said Wollongong is spelled correctly :-)), however, if you wish to be accurate it is not Freemantle but Fremantle.

  Hello again

Thank You for the corrections everyone. Again, if I don`t ask, I don`t learn. Or as we say here in Canada, there are No dumb questions just dumb people.

Serious question to ALL members. Is there anyone out there that knows how to create the Wollongong Crest in 1/72 scale for the fremantle and armidale ships for me? I will pay for the crests BUT I do expect them to be as sharp in detail as possible. I have read that it can be done on the computer with the correct software BUT I don`t have enough computer experience to do it hence why I am asking the membership for help.

Again Sorry for hijacking this thread.

 I hope I don`t get into admin. trouble ?

 Thanks Again Everyone

  Hello Again

Sorry forgot to ask, does anyone know of the status of Mr.Alan Pew A.P.S Models? I sent him an email ; apsmods@bigpond.net.au reg. 1/72 armidale fittings and fremantle fittings, same scale, but have not heard back from him. It`s been nearly a week, is that normal?

Can someone let me know his status please.

 Thanks

I have just tried printing the crest at 1:72 on glossy photo paper on our inkjet and at that scale you are not going to be able to read the words.
Remember it is only 12 mm. x 10 mm., less than 1/2 inch high in the old measurments.
The R.A.N. website:- http://www.navy.gov.au/File:Crest_Wollongong.gif will give you the picture although if you could find it in a higher resolution it might print slightly better.

Name board and crest produced on 'Word' document and photo paper print on my 1:50 'Rat'
Crest is about 18 mm. high which is slightly oversize.
They are only stuck on with 'Bluetack'
