All that's needed now is a 1/5th scale Spitfire to put it in, or build another 3 and do a Lancaster.... :-)) :-)) :-))

Wow!

I need one of those... but Im guessing that the weight would be a problem for an 1:5 spitty project

Not aware of any of the boats having Merlins, most were Packard V12 actually 12M or Napier Lions. Some had Isotta Fraschini 57-litre petrol engines. Merlins were aircraft only (excluding race boats) Meteors were the continuously rated engines used in Tanks, Gen sets etc.

In 1938, Rolls-Royce started work on modifying some Merlins which were later to be used in British MTBs, MGBs, and RAF Air-Sea Rescue Launches. For these the superchargers were modified single-stage units and the engine was re-engineered for use in a marine environment.

Umm now I'm confused the link Number 94 gives this. 1938 Marinised version of the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine fitted in Royal Navy prototype Motor Torpedo Boats.
But if you read the individual entries for these & also Andrew Jackson Higgins bio which I finished a while ago no mention of Merlins. I'll delve further! :-))

I think this confusion is caused by the fact that Packard built many thousands of Merlin engines under licence, and these were used in British-built aircraft as well as the Mustang and other American types. Merlins may well have been used in prototypes, but the engines used in production MTBs and so on were of Packard's own design. There are drawings of these in John Lambert's excellent books on coastal forces.
