Hello folks

I have read several posts on this site re using a mixture of acrlylics and cellulose paints on models, I have recently finished an mtb hull made of a mixture of ply and balsa which I sealed with a couple of thinned coats of J Perkins sanding sealer, which I left to harden off for a few weeks, I then sprayed the hull with two coats of  Siminoz acrylic primer rattle cans which I understand is the same or very similar to the Halfords stuff but half the price. I did not get back to the hull for a couple of weeks due to other commitments, on inspecting it I noticed three patches of what I can only describe as crazing some inch and a half long by about half inch wide. Have I made the fatal mistake of spraying acrylic over cellulose as I understand from the afore mentioned posts that this is a no no!!, am I correct in this ?

If this is the case and can any fellow member advise me on a way of rectifying this situation if possible, I am hoping that it will not spread any further, and also am I correct that you cannot use acrylics over cellulose but you can use cellulose over acrylics? it never occured to me that the sanding sealer I used may cause these problems if indeed this is the case!! put me up as the number one numpty of the week!!!

Thanks in advance for folks for any advice re the above.
All the best, John.

Celly over Acrylic is a NO NO

Acrylic over Celly Also a NO NO

Rub it all down again and Try Halfords Acrylics Far better than the simoniz poo poo, What you will have to do is to build up the coats of primer accordingly but DONT put on  full wet coat but paint it rather on the DRY side, what this will do is to seal the hull.If this doesn't work then you will have to go the Humbrol enamel route.I tried that stuff as a guide coat as it was cheap NEVER again they went in the bin paint inside is like water.

I never use sanding sealer NO point in my opinion to it,all you need to do is to spray Primer on the wood a couple of light coats and it will bring up the grain of the wood, rub it down and prime to your hearts content

Stavros,

Has anyone imposed upon you to do a 'painting' tutorial.

Would no doubt be appreciated and beneficial to all.  O0 O0
