Lost Brixham Trawler
« on: September 11, 2012, 06:28:52 pm »

Once again, the hazardous lives of our Fishermen have been brought to our notice by the loss of a Brixham Trawler,Two lives have been saved, but hopes are failing for a third, still missing. She went down just two miles offshore.which goes to show that it is not just deep sea fishermen who risk their lives to bring us our fish. Again it shows the worth of our Lifeboat Service, with two lifeboats being involved in the search for the missing person.Involved in the search, have also been other fishing boats, the Royal Navy as well as a coastguard rescue helicopter, and other vessels.
There has been much use of the word "heroes" in the very recent past, surely Lifeboat Crew, Fishermen, and all rescue services should be included under this accolade, indeed ALL those who put THEIR lives at risk for others?
I am sure you would all join in the hope that there will be a good outcome to this search.
Thanks,
Mick F

Very sad to hear , especially as I know what its like , for the family and as a crewman, never liked hearing about vessels sinking and crewmen missing  as the hope is always there but unfortunately the reality is the other way , Have been in the situation myself also with fatalities and although people automatically think of the family , the living crew do suffer as well , but as always at times like this my thoughts go to his family and crewmates

I can only add to those sad prayers, and as I come from a fishing port I can understand the sadness and the misery that now surrounds those family and friends of the lost  fisherman.
May he always be remembered and have a safe haven in god's peace.

The search for the missing Fisherman has now been called off. What makes it even more poignant,is that he was an ex Lifeboatmen, who was awarded by the R.N.L.I. for one of the rescues he took part in.The crew of the Exmouth Lifeboat that was involved in the search for him all knew him,and indded were searching for "one of their own"

Being not far from Fleetwood where some of my family are still connected to the fishing industry, the loss of this trawler and her crew is heartbreaking news.

Condolences to the families
