OK, this is a bit OT but related, so I'll not start a new thread.
As I'm kitbashing my Aziz kit into something a bit different but I hope still realistic, I've been looking at photos, etc, to research the 'new look'.
Now the Aziz and most other AHTS are more than 50m long, so fall into the 'two white lights' ship category when not towing. The Aziz and one or two of the ones I've got pics of have a main mast on the superstructure and a second one on the forecastle (which according to the kit instructions carries 3 white lights). From what I can see around all the rules/diagrams this makes sense.
The problem I have is that most of the AHTS I have pictures of, and most are more modern ships than the Aziz, most seem to have only one mast - nothing prominent elsewhere. I can only surmise that either the rules have changed recently (the last ten years or so) or that the requirement for the second white steaming light for 50m+ vessels to be above and behind the first one can be met by it being just a few feet above and behind - ie. in different locations sprung off the same mast.
Can anyone shed any light on this? (no pun intended, honest.)
