Bob Dylan as a song writer just by sheer volume of successful tracks penned and used by others.  As a singer Van Morrison could be better  for me but it depends on what mood he is in on any given day.  Of the three times I have seen Van Morrison over the years you never know what to expect from his mood.  Once when I saw him he was clearly not in a good mood.  Played for barely 45 minutes as I recall.  Didnt speak, didnt interact apart from a few grunted swear words no effort just going through the motions then left no encore thats your lot.  Yet next time he was charm itself and went on and on with encores and rapport with the audience.  Strange man.

I met Van M. whilst working at the BBC way back in the early 90s. He was a horrible, self-opinionated ---------. >:-o  The second-most* unpleasant person I met in eight years of camerawork.

In my opinion (even a bit croaky towards the end of his life) it's got to be Johnny Cash

I met his ex girlfriend, a young blonde lass called Joyce Gallagher, whilst on Holiday in Majorca back in easter 1974, and dated her for a  little while.....even took her to Plymouth for a weekend in my MG midget........she was a lovely girl, but said very little about her time with him..spoke volumes..wonder where she is now........ :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed: :embarrassed:

Of the four names quoted, IMHO Bob Dylan's lyrics are immortal and almost anthems for a whole generation, but as a singer . . .
I always preferred his songs sung by Joan Baez
