My daughter has just come back from Seattle where she had to go for a meeting, but she flew down to LA and then flew home from there. Always being interested (and worried) when she's away I found a website where you can track the aircraft in real time using devices similar to a ships' AIS.
The site is
www.flightradar24.comIf you know the flight number you can highlight the aircraft a panel opens giving a piccy of the aircraft type, its call sign, speed, height, heading, position, altitude etc. Click a button and you can have a picture out of the cockpit window, this is not real time but linked in with Google Earth, but you can follow the aircraft into land. The cockpit view also gives dials showing altitude, speed and heading which is coming direct from the aircraft in real time.
What was a surprise is how many aircraft are in the sky at any one time especially over the US and Europe, worth a look.
