HMS Tiger
« on: September 23, 2012, 12:33:57 pm »

Just to let you know that Revell has just released a kit of HMS Tiger as converted to a helicopter carrier. This is a 1/700 model and looks pretty good for £8.99, my type of model. I have bought one to build on a seascape, but as I'm building Airfix's HMS Suffolk at the moment it will be a while before I get round to it and hopefully by then there will be some PE upgrades available.

There are so few plastic kits available of British Cruisers its nice to see it released.

My local model shop did suggest that was the case. I don't remember much about the Matchbox series, I do know there was a great battle Class destroyerr I think it was a Frog kit first or became a Frog kit later.

Frog did both Tiger in her original guise at 1/415 (I think or 1/450) and the battle which both became Novo and Eastern Express

Many years ago (late 90s) I bulit Deans HMS Solebay and I searched for the 'Frog' battle to make as a comparison kit, but alas I could not find it. I haven't seen it on sale for decades.

From my memory Matchbox had- HMS Tiger
                                              HMS Duke of York
                                              HMS Adriane
                                              HMS Exeter
                                              USS Indianapolis
                                              Battle class destroyer
All of them were in 1/700 scale, I have all the above except the Battle class!

They also did a Narvik class German destroyer, a USN Fletcher and HMS Kelly
to 1/700th  I remember being miffed they weren't to 1/600th as I wanted Exeter to model the Battle of the River Plate along side my Airfix Ajax!
