Help ! - Planet receiver fault
« on: September 23, 2012, 06:56:47 pm »

Hope someone can help.....

I am trying to bind my Planet receiver to my Planet TX.....I've done this on five other boats previously but for some reason I can't get this one setup.

When I switch on the power all I get is a steady red light in the RX. It should be a steady pulse flash unil you press the binding switch and then it should flash three times...

Anyone know what the problem is......Connections or faulty RX?...

Regards

hi Alan, sounds like a faulty Rx to me.
Your Tx is off when you power up the Rx I presume.
The normal set up is power up the Rx, steady pulse. press bind button, faster pulse.
power up the Tx. the Rx should have a steady light once binding is complete.
As you have already done  this on several boats I should think you are following the correct procedure.

sometimes if the tx is to close to rx it can fail to bind , 3-4 feet should be ok , failing that and your doing everything else right then possibbly a faulty rx

Another classic problem is trying to get a 2.4Ghz Rx to bind while sitting next to a wireless computer also radiating strongly on 2.4Ghz.  I don't know if that's a possibility, but if it is just move away from the computer wireless connection, or turn it off...

Many Thanks for all your great replies some useful information in them and John identified the problem 100%.

I ordered a new Planet A6M receiver and plugged it into the boat electronics and straight away i got the pulse lights after that binding was easy and setting up the Viper ESC straightforward.

The original A6M is obviously faulty.....I am a little worried as this is the second Planet receiver I have fail to initiate. There seems to be a quality control issue....I know they are fairly inexpensive but that is not an excuse for poor quality control.

Is there an alternative receiver I could use with the system?......
