 Hi all - i have just signed up in the last few days - to get back into boat building after 25years , where has the time gone  >:-o  i have treated myself to a  tid tug hull (kingston moulding )  1/24 scale - also a graupner 500  motor - already i have a question  i will be using a 80mm 4 blade prop- can some one please say, if i should  use a gear box  ratio 2.5  ,3-1  etc  for better running /towing - thanks for your time regards Dave   ( when the hull turns up and i make a start - i will put up pics etc of build - if that is ok )  :-))

Yes you will need about a 2.5:1 gearbox to turn such a large prop.

Hi and welcome to the forum ,right with regards to your motor personally I would say that even with a gearbox it is totally unsuitable for your application,However may I reccomend a couple of motor that would be far more suitable

Graupener 720 Torque
MFA 800

Both these motors are around 5000rpm and are a better bet than the 500 series,Both these motors can go direct drive without the need of a gearbox,I used to have a Tid  1/24th scale fitted with a 800 motor and she really had some grunt for towing and getting out of trouble so to speak.The choice is yours obviously
