Please see the link to the new website for the home of the Coniston Regatta; a traditional Lakeland regatta held at the home of Swallows and Amazons.

Of course, a few models would be very welcome too...

Brilliant Greg. Just confirm the site is referring to year 2013. I know it's not this year cos days don't match dates, but have been caught out before. I used to own Redwing number 180 "Crescendo". A seaboat and rare to see on a lake.
I can bring my S. L. Wear if we can get on a caravan site nearby. Will look into it.
Thanks for telling us.
Jerry.

Hi Jerry,

Indeed, the events page is set up for 2013- thanks for the question- I'll make the year a bit more prominent.

The Redwing is quite a boat- I went out on the trapeze on a steady day, but with fairly strong intermittent gusts- great fun.

There are loads of places to stay nearby- but of you have a caravan I would recommend either Pier Cottage Caravan Site or Park Coppice Caravan Park.

Nice one Greg, lots of reminders nearer to the event please!

Ian

Will do Ian. PM me if you can be coerced into bringing your lovely dinghy next year....

if you are on Facebook I will be regularly updating the official page;

Me and the Memsahib are going up to Coniston in a couple of weeks time with the caravan to do a recce. Haven't been to the lakes for yonks. Will take the launch and give her a spin where she belongs. Hoping to meet up with Gondolier88 while there. Defo going to the regatta next may. It's the most likely time for good weather on the west coast too.

Did the recce, campsite superb, met up with gondolier88 and he kindly showed us around S. Y. Gondola. Lovely vessel and it runs on sawdust! Unfortunately the weather prevented her sailing on that day and the rest were booked for Beatrice Potters house Hilltop and Wordsworths pad in cockermouth. Didn't manage to sail "Wear" again due to weather but a good test of the "newer" caravan. Off to llanberis tomorrow.

Greg, we booked at Park Coppice caravan site for the Regatta dates. As it's a Caravan Cub site we had to wait until the 5th December to book. Seems a bit daft to me. Anyway we are hoping for good weather as TT Practice and TTweeks are statistically the dryest periods on the west coast. Book early cos it's a Bank Holiday. Did you receive the photos I emailed? Are any other peeps bringing any models?
Jerry.

Jerry,

Yes, the CC booking rules are daft beyond- supposed to make it 'fair' for everyone apparently.

Never had a wet day on my regatta yet!! Oh dear, I've said it out loud now {:-{

yes, I received all your pics, thanks- I had thought I had replied, I do apologise. Yes, Rob is bringing Hearts of Oak, he's no choice in the matter!!! <*<  I'm trying to get a couple of guys over from the Windermere Model Boat club too-  a few steam launches in the club too.

Regards,

Greg

Greg, will have another couple coming with us in motorhome. He may bring an electric Clyde puffer and a vintage pilot boat. There may also be one more couple. Will confirm next time I see him. He has a steam driven puffer.

That's fantastic- a little steam driven fleet to compliment the big steam driven fleet will be lovely- of course, copious 'whistle off's' will ensue...

Greg,

How about a steam drifter model? (electric powered am afraid)

Are you thinking of extending the event to include a model stand?

Hi Ian,

I'll extend the event to anything that interests more people of all ages, and provides attractions that can be seen shoreside/from the shore.

I would love to have a model drifter to add to the line-up.

Does anyone know where I could lay my hands upon (borrow...!) a 6m x 3m marquee/gazebo for the regatta next year- it would be nice to have a model tent if there are going to be a handful there.

You can buy them cheap on Ama-bay etc., but you do get what you pay for, and I can't afford to get a couple. I have the use of one promised already, but another would be very handy.

Hi Greg. Sorry, somehow I missed this post about the gazebo. I can bring a 6Mx3M with 4 sides that come off if required. I can even supply the caravan table as a stand if it helps. However if that side of the lake is same as Park Coppice you'll need some pretty strong nail type pegs and a good mallet cos my rubber one wont look at 'em! Hows it all looking?

Hi Jerry,

That's really very kind of you! I will take you up on your offer, thank you. Don't worry about bringing the table- I'm sure you can make use of that in your caravan!

Would you be able to bring it on the Wed (29th)?

Thanks again.

Greg

No problem greg will bring tent across on Wednesday after I've set up the caravan. Just make sure I've got your mobile number nearer the time.
Jerry.
