Yes. See report in the local paper.

How low can you get, stealing from a charity and also from the individuals who had left their models on display trying to sell them with the commission going to the charity.

I repeat if anyone knows anything about this despicable crime then report it.

Other items stolen included radio controlled cars, helicopters, planes, transmitters and accessories.

Theft puts future of disabled sailors' charity in doubt
THE future of a charity for disabled sailors is in doubt after thousands of pounds worth of radio-controlled models were stolen during a burglary.

Thieves broke in to Fareham Models and Raceway in Cranleigh Road, Portchester , before making off with specialist stock worth £20,000.

The shop is part of The Disabled Sailors Association, which provides sailing experiences for thousands of disabled people every year.

Volunteers raise funds to keep the charity going by repairing and selling on remote controlled car, boat and helicopter models.

Now bosses fear they may have to close down through lack of funds after thousands of pounds of damage was caused during the break-in.

Chairman Mike Wood said rare items that took weeks to renovate had been among the stolen goods while specialist sailing equipment for disabled people was also taken.

He said: “It is totally soul destroying and it made me feel sick.

“I have been doing this for 20 years and we have never had anything like this happen. We provide sailing for up to 2,500 people each year and we believe it is something nobody else in the world offers.

“We need the shop to help pay the bills. It may be that we can struggle through the next month or two but after that I don't know what we are going to do.”

Anyone who witnessed the burglary, between Saturday lunchtime and Monday lunchtime, should contact Park Gate police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

1, I dont have any pictures, unfortunately.
2, Sadly, sometimes around the nearest housing estate ( speaking from past experience, difficult to track down what has been nicked over what has been purchased legitimately.), I doubt it would end up on the auction sites any time soon, probably car boot sales 60 miles away.
Hope it all turns out well for our local retail competitors, they dont deserve this..

We can't do much from this side of the pond except watch the for sale items on the different sites. We all tend to wander off subject sometimes but we should leave it to the Mods & Martin to put the train back on the rails. It is not productive taking shots @ our fellow members. I wondered if the forum could set up an organised watch system when something like this happens, just thinking a bit out loud, any suggestions, Mick B.

I had a largish item stolen fairly recently. According to the Police Constable that attended, eBay isn't the primary choice for fencing items as it is so easy to monitor, and the listing of such items automatically links ownership of the stolen goods to the 'seller'.

Stripped and shifted is apparently the way things go (Car Boot Sales, Bring & Buys, etc), although why there is still a market supporting the trade in knock-offs, with such a wide range of easily-available and reasonably-priced legitimate items available these days, is somewhat puzzling.

However, if we get updated on the cache of stolen items, we may be able to respond to the local newspaper's request for help - http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/9956445.Theft_puts_future_of_disabled_sailors__charity_in_doubt/

Please guys, this is serious if this charity closes as a result of this big loss then the livelihood of others are is risk as is the possible loss of a great outlet for the young (and the not so young), to enjoy their hobby.

More photos.

Is this actually your narrow-boat?

If you add a detailed description of the construction and a couple of pictures of the gear inside, it might still be recognisable if it were to be repainted?

im unsure as to weather the new stock was insured or not , the article in our local news did mention that models being sold on customers behaf were not insured througgh the shop , lets hope all of the stolen goods can be recovered , as chilboats has already posted if this charity is forced to close its doors a lot of people will loose out both the modellers and those disabled sailers who the charity also supports . jon

Thanks to the moderator for cleaning up the post and placing the emphasis back to the original appeal.

The model was GRP, both the hull and cabin. The cabin was metallic bright blue with silver windows. And the name Hunters Pride, Chichester Ship Canal on the cabin sided. It had read coach lines. The cabin doors were hardwood on brass hinges, the front pair of doors were glazed and the rear pair of doors were solid. Inside was clear of any furniture fittings but it was fitted out with an MFA 800 or 850 motor (I cannot remember which) and it had a Mtronics ESC. The rudder post terminated at the top (just under the rear deck) with a wheel that was turned by the servo. The servo was connected to the wheel with fishing trace wire. I appreciate that all of these could be removed/changed and it could be resprayed but the cabin colour ran through the GRP so the original colour will always be there. It was approximately 4 foot long.

Thanks to all of you for your kind responses.

Larger photos, its the blue one not the smaller working narrow boat

Can you re-post the list of other models/items stolen please?

The more things we can look for, the better the chances of the scumbags being caught.

Please be aware that the site caters mostly for cars and aircraft.
The shop is inside a large industrial unit which has a permanent car race track.
Flying takes place inside the unit (for small indoor flyers ) and from a field almost opposite the unit.
There are very few model boats but some kits and some spares.
The staff do attend local shows to promote the ethos and of course sell the same as any model shop.
The staff have always been cheerful and friendly up to now and I certainly wish them well in recovering any stolen material.

The mindless pond life have now targeted the charity' chairman.

THE NEWS

Heartache as charity is targeted yet again

Published on Monday 1 October 2012 09:08

A CHARITY’S chairman has suffered a double blow after having his home vandalised just a few days after a burglary.

Mike Wood, chairman of the Disabled Sailors Association, was devastated when the group’s charity shop, Fareham Models and Raceway, in Cranleigh Road, Portchester, was burgled.

As reported previously, thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the building and to the charity’s boats and equipment.

Now Mr Wood is having to clean up after his home was vandalised with obscene graffiti.

The graffiti poked fun at the fact he uses a wheelchair.

Mr Wood woke up on Saturday morning to find the graffiti on the side wall of his house.

Mr Wood, 65, said: ‘It just knocks the stuffing out of you.

‘I feel like being sick.’

But he said he was not going to let the vandalism keep him feeling down for long.

He added: ‘With the list of problems we have had, this is pretty insignificant.’

Since an article appeared in The News about the burglary, the charity has had several pledges of donations, including one for £1,000.

The charity provides sailing for 2,000 disabled people every year in its unique wheelchair-accessible yachts and dingies.

Fareham Models and Raceway raises funds by repairing and selling radio-controlled models of helicopters and model cars.

It was broken into sometime between lunchtime on September 22 and lunchtime on September 24.

It is estimated that more than £20,000 of stock was stolen.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.

Article is in todays edition of The News (Portsmouth).

Topic cleaned up.

We've been a little sidetracked on this one, which is understandable but lets keep this one strictly on topic please.
