After a short break I am now continuing with this build. The next area is the hatch & MacGregor Hatch Covers. These differ considerably from the kit, so most is scratchbuilt using some of the kit parts. This will be built as a complete assembly, painted & then fitted to the model. First a coaming was built. Then the hatch & covers made. I have decided to have the 3 forward sections open some some additional detailing is required.

More tedious work, hatch coaming supports. The grey pipe is the firemain running forward. It all looks a bit untidy002.jpg photo but it will look a lot better after a coat of grey paint.

The grey pipe is the firemain running forward.
The picture is so small at 280px wide (as are all yesterday and today) that I can just about see something that may be the pipe in question. It might even be grey.

Although the pics change the cursor to suggest they are clickable nothing happens. The ones from earlier are bigger to begin with, but also get even bigger when clicked, so clearly something has changed since 6 Nov. If it's the new forum I'm a bit puzzled that the earlier pics still act reasonably. Be nice if it can be fixed as it's hard to see what you're really doing at this size.

I agree this is very annoying. When I started this build putting pictures on was simple. Now I seem to have to jump through hoops to get anything to come up at all!!!

One side & both ends done. As predicted a coat of grey primer shows up that detail very well, super!!

I shall now move over to the port side. No firemain on that side so no tricky holes to drill. This has taken me a couple of days & some swearing to keep focused on this part of the build. I have made some other parts to break up the tedium. The aft hold access has been made & some very nice brass portholes fitted to the accommodation. I have 4 more larger ports to cut. 2 for the Chief Engineers cabin, on the after bulkhead & 2 on the focsle bulkhead. I shall then move to the focsle where there are 2 access hatches, one either side of the mast.

I have been working on the focsle this week. There are some vents & access hatches to make. Not in the kit so they have all been made of plasticard. The mast has also been made.
