Does anybody know what colour paints and quantities to make a galvanized paint colour

In the land rover world we use hammered silver and hammered black hammerite to make a replica galvanised finish.


So I would probably suggest a matt silver and matt black in model form.

Akers ....a true galvanized surface is a spangled combination of zinc & tin..... in this modern day it is more a combination with aluminium ...so [Zn +Sn+Al]

However ....possibly a can of automotive grey primer or gloss may suffice..........Derek

I've always used Halfords grey primer to represent galvanised parts. It depends on what stage after galvanising. Soon after it's done it's bright and shiny, but after a while exposed to the elements it goes a dull grey.

Hi, dont know if this  is suitable it is for metal  but with undercoat etc who knows it is  made by ROCOL oils and is real  COLD GALVANISING SRAY  very good product   MALCOLM

I have fund the Tamiya "Titanium Silver  X32", to give an authentic "weathered galvanised finish", it does not have the high sheen of brand new galvanised, but looks more like its been in service a while..........

That was my thought , rather than make a mix up just use the ready made stuff .

I have some 'galvanising' paint I got from Toolstation which was good, sprayed nice and easily.

The problem is, all the non-model paints, cold galvanising spray, galvafroid etc, are zinc rich paints designed to stop corrosion - they don't look anything like hot dipped galvanising where what comes out shows the bright and shiny zinc crystals which have a non-uniform visible surface and weather down into many shades of grey on one surface.

Galvafroid, visually, is just a dark grey paint.

It's damn near impossible to replicate the hot dipped effect in 1/1 scale, let alone 1/12 (or whatever).

Try sponging the paint on instead of brushing or spraying... looks quite good.
