Rest in Peace Sir,
I was just old enough later in the war to see, maybe not you but your compariots, both fly and fight overhead along with the USAAF. Some things remain in my memory for ever, Spitfires and Typhoons chaseing V1s and if the pilots spotted us youngsters some would come low enough for us to see them give us a return wave. Always wondered if the B17 (We did not see many in my area) one engine stopped and hanging half off the wing, another smoking so badly it must have been on fire, holes in the wings and fuselage, lumps missing from the tailplane and fin, very lights being fire off all the time it was in sight, one can only hope it/they made it to a safe haven.
Truly we have much to thank these real Heroes for, they should never be forgotten.
