Sail and mast case
« on: November 02, 2012, 03:02:47 am »

Hi, I'm in the process of building an I0M, a Nimbus Mk3, and have come to the realisation that the No1 rig is almost as tall as I am! :o

 Does any one have any ideas regarding a case to carry the rigs?

 Photos, plans, descriptions, any ideas would be worth while. O0

Thanks

Mick

Mick,

Have a look at http://www.paisleymodelyachtclub.co.uk/#/for-sale/4535508914

Not suggesting you order from them - postage costs etc. - but you can get an idea what's required from the pictures.

Good luck,
Mike

Thanks Mike,

That's something like I need. And you're correct, the postage on something that big to Aust would be as much as the product. :((

Any idea of what they are made from?

Hi, We made 17 of these cases for the yachtsmen in our club. quite easy to make, 2 x1/2 for the sides & 1/8 ply for the skins. It might cost you more for the furniture. Nemesis

@MickK:

I have seen something similar made from Corflute (the plastic sheet used for real estate signs) and duct tape. Not as pretty as the timber ones but does the job

Beat me to it ! I built one from what looks like identical timber etc to the commercial one, then checked out my local Yellow Pages for sign manufacturers and purchased a couple of sheets of the white  ('House For Sale' type) plastic "cardboard" for the sides. Cannot remember the cost (In the uk anyway) but it has been kicking around the garage, loaded into car etc for a few years and the sides are still intact.
