David Macgregor Plans
« on: November 03, 2012, 12:39:07 pm »

Hi
Is there a site for David Macgregor plans, or does any one have a plans book and can tell me the price of HMS Hedingham Castle F-386.

Thanks

The David MacGregor plans collection is owned by the Great Britain Trust who have not made them available to the public for many years citing the need to establish new library facilities and to assess the originals, many of which have become fragile.
Many modellers have found the inaccessibility of this valuable maritime modelling resource to be very frustrating.

 HI LB.

Unfortunately David MacGregor died in 2003.

see colins relpy.  http://www.ssgreatbritain.org/AskCurator.aspx

Feb 1012 is the latest update in the saga I could find.  basically this museum has been sat on these plans for 9 years.

If you go into the plans section you will find David MacGregor plans are not readily available this is because David bequeathed his plans to the Brunel Trust.

The plans were sent to the Brunel Institute who thought that there were about 400 plans and it turns out to be 7246 plans. There is a PDF file on the Institutes web site which you can download and they are currently working on digitising the plans and are hoping to have them ready and on the web site by the end of the year.
To find the site go to www.ssgreatbritain.org and then on the top menu far right hand side you will see Brunel Institute, click in it and it will take you to their site.

Thanks Colin & Frank.
Now you mention it I Remember a thread either here or on the Warship forum about the difficuly of getting the plans.
I ask as a member of our group passed away and he has these plans 2 sheets of., and I was going to put them on a well known auction site and was looking at a starting price, now not sure..They do appear to be original Copys in the sense that they are on the brownie yellow paper.

The two Hedingham Castle sheets cost just over £12 the pair in February 1987!

hi ya there

With regard to HM HEDINGHAM CASTLE, 1945 drawn by Norman A. Ough  - if these are the ones you are looking for - they should be on a 1 x sheet plan - at least plans I have are.

In a book I also have 'Royal Navy Warship Drawings by Norman A. Ough - first series - it gives a brief description of the plans/model and they are also shown on a 1 sheet page plan.O/S/6A profile, desk plans

John,

Had another look at my catalogue. Yes, the sheet you have is probably O/S/6A which included all details at 1:96 which cost 3.60

There were also two other sheets O/S/6B, profile and plating and O/S/6C deck plan, lines and details to 1:48 which cost 8.50 each. (These were on another page!)

Mr Macgregor would be turning in his grave if he knew what was happening........I am sure he thought he was putting them into the hands of a "Trust" so that they could be shared by model makers world wide.............and look what happens beurocracy and ill managed man hours wins yet again.......
I get disgusted with museums and such that accept these sorts of bequests and then sit on them for years without athought for the person that donated a lifetime's work and then it never sees the light of day >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(
That is why I will NEVER  donate something to a museum...... <*< <*<

Fully Agree, Shame he did not offer them out to someone other than the trust. I can not understand why they are not available as the trust does not need to scan them all, just the ones being requested.

I spoke to Dave Metcalf at Warwick today. He now has various plans available including a two sheet set for Hedingham Castle at 1:48th  scale plus a GRP hull at £110. Most of these plans are from the Dave sambrook range.
