And don't forget you pay VAT on the duty.
So it's add cost and shipping together, work out duty (possibly 4% or so for models I think, but you'll need to check as that was from the USA a few years ago) and add to total, add 20% of that for VAT, then add handling fee (which used to be £12 for Parcelfarce or Royal Mail).
Oh, yes, if it's your turn for a bad day you'll find the seller marks the customs declaration with the wrong category (more duty) or wrong value (eg. $6000).
(I know all this because I used to model American trains and bought a LOT of stuff from the US. The 'bad days' were more than compensated by the savings over the years, but for a one off purchase you should be aware of the potential gotchas.)
