DIFFERENT PHOTO FILE CLASSIFICATIONS.
« on: November 11, 2012, 12:00:41 am »

Can anyone please explain to me in simple terms what the differences in JPEG, and JPG files are...........cause I am stumped..........
all my photos are JPEG, and when either put on the forum straight from the sd card or resized to the correct allowed image size, they come up on the posting as JPG..........
now, tonight I've just tried to post two photos, ( well under the size allowed)as JPEG  file images.............and the notice comes up that JPEG images can't be hosted on the site and it will not allow me to post photos that I have had no probles with before............can anyone help please or tell me what the h*** is going on......................as I haven't done anything different to what I've been doing the last few years.
I feel a stressy headache coming on  and am going to bed..........hopefully will read any answers tomozz.
cheers, neil.

The difference between .jpg and .jpeg!!!!!! the simple answer is, they are the same thing. They are both rendered the same way. Jpg was used when only 3 letter extensions could be used in DOS. When windows 95 came out, longer extensions could be used and that is when the full extension name jpeg was used.
The only problem I can see with posting images is a site problem with the way it handles files and not something you have done or not done.

Hope that helps.

Some useless information for you Neil (you may find it useful if you are at a trivia Night :D ) The term "JPEG" is an acronym for the Joint Photographic Experts Group, according to Wikipedia.

I'll bet that it was something you have always wanted to know {-)

Neil,

You can safely change the extension without affecting the photos. In Windows Explorer right click on the file and select Rename. Then just delete the E. A pain I know, but it will at least allow you to post your photos.
