Lady Margaret
« on: November 12, 2012, 10:13:02 pm »

Here are some pictures of my scratch built freelance armed trawler Lady Margaret , the model was inspired by the book Trawlers go to war.
i built her almost 30 years ago then sold her to a friend about 10 years ago and bought her back a couple of months ago , she was in a bit of a state but she is starting to take shape again but still need to rebuild the depthcharge racks , the clean bits are the repaired/replaced bits lol
hope you like it

Nice looking thing. How big is she?
Fair bristling with guns - 5? I guess armed trawlers didn't trawl much :)

thx mate  :-))
oal 30"
beam 6"
hight 14"

guns 1 x 4" 3 x 20 mm and 2 x .303" twin machine guns , they begged ,  borrowed or stole weapons where they could , some crews even went ashore during Dunkirk to augment the standard weapons fit and were fairly bristling with guns

according to the book a few were lost just because they did trawl and were surprised by surfaced submarines , was Harry Tates navy after all  :((

A great number of them were officially the Special Patrol Service, all ex fisherman in uniform with a RN officer usually commanding a flotilla of 4 to give credence and keep some control.
