I.C. BOATS AND THEIR RESTRICTIONS
« on: November 20, 2012, 06:54:32 pm »

What are the rules on operating I.C. boats, are they restricted to certain lakes around the country, or is it just a matter of individual clubs banning their use because of pollution, health & safety, and Local Councils Bye-Laws ?

Any guide lines etc., would be helpful

thanks in advance

As a group we do not allow them as our insurance does not cover it, to my knowledge there is actually no Council restriction on our lake, however there is wildlife , the pond is not huge and is surrounded bu concrete edges, It would only take one incident or residents to complain and we would get the blame regardless the fact that the lake is public, as we have before when an idiot (Not a member ) delibrately chased ducks in public view, luckily we were able to prove that they had nothing to do with us.
It is a shame as I have a couple of boats which would be great with IC but with the improvements with electrics it is just as fun.

Most bans are down to local bye laws, usually concerned with noise. If you have a particular water in mind you would need to check with the appropriate authority (park rangers, council, land owner). Insurance is also a consideration and most insurances require that you have the land owners permission to sail. HTH

Could you post whereabouts you are? as it would help replies. Oil pollution of water can also be a problem. Where i live i can think of places where an ic boat can be run. Why not ask around at your local clubs? John.

hi,we run petrol model power boats at a boating lake in bidston, birkenhead, just the other side of the tunnel, although lake is a public lake you do need insurance to run,we meet there most sundays and although its not the largest of lakes its more than adequate.as for insurance you could try bmprs please check the web site for details, hope this helps, kurt

Not decided yet, used to race in the late 60's, have a Flaty in the loft (minus its engine) which I would like to revive

Also forgot have a 70's Aerokits Swordsman on the bench being restored has no engine but will fit an IC engine from the 70's....I think it had a Merco 29 fitted originally
