Is a twin stick RC transmitter (ie Navy F14)the best for a twin motor fast boat?

A twin stick controller is a bit overkill for a fast electric, 
  .... bit like fitting Satnav to you push bike to go to the local shops ... impressive but nuts! 


If you are think of future, twin motors, multi function boats, etc, it may be worth considering but only if you really need it

Personally, although the Navy F-14 is a superb piece of kit it may be an overkill for a twin motor surface ship.
Why pay almost 200 Pounds for a 40 Mhz transmitter when a 2.4 Ghz Planet T4 may do the job just as well for almost a quarter of the cost.

If you want differential control of port and starboard props you could use an ACTion P94 controller which has twin ESC’s built in plus a mixer that slows the inboard prop in proportion to rudder movement.  Your boat will turn on a sixpence without having to fiddle with two motor joysticks.

Hi.

If you don't have a radio yet then get one that has a couple of mixers.

The current Futaba 6 2.4 is very good.

If you want independent control of the motors then just use two Chan's, one for each motor, after removing the ratchet from the throttle stick.

Re connect the spring and you will have two Fwd / Rev sticks with centre off.

That will give you 1 stick per motor.

If you then mix the two together using Mix1 and designated  ON/OFF mix switch on the Tx. you can couple the two motors onto 1 selected stick.

Easier to do than to read about.

Beware :-
The new Futaba 6J and the Action P94 will not work together. I have spoken with Action to confirm this.  The technical explanation is that the mixed channel signals seem to overlap (must be the new technology for speeding up response times).
Skysport 2.4s are the same.
All others should be ok.
There is a warning of this on the Action website on the P94 products page.

Provided that the motors are brushed type and you don't want to have the ability to select both motor, (fully proportional), control on one stick.

Will I still have a control for the bow thruster?
Will I still be able to steer the rudders as well as power?
When the alteration to the Tx is made will the sticks spring return to the center?
Is the Mix switch a standard item on this Tx?

Sorry to sound a bit thick, but what model are we talking about?
You said it was a fast model, so why mixers and what use is a bow thruster
on aforesaid 'Fast Boat'

Yes, the model is to be of a Princess 440 cruiser.
As this is to be a perfect scale replica it has to have a bow thruster as the boat being replicated
