I would guess that BP may be offloading a load of petrol station sites following the Deepwater Horizon disaster settlement.  Although margins may be tight, despite sky high fuel prices, the real estate is worth more.

having just spent a night at one of the revamping sites , they were changing all of the pipework and wireing from the underground tanks and replacing the pumps , maybe this has something to do with the new ethanol based fuel thats due to be introduced ?

plus its better to own the stations than let a small independant get them and start undercutting your prices.

Or it could be that they are trying to dispose of money in their assets so avoid a big tax bill...

Unless of course they are corporate tax dodgers...

It will be interesting to see if any of the refits include Hydrogen fuel top up.

My brother has done a lot of revamps of gas stations. A lot went to mini-mart operations, as there is more profit in that than there is in fuel.

ASDAy say you dont have to shop there. Have you ever been to the sort of General store/Pub in Ireland where you can get anything including a beer, thats what we need, a filling station and a pub in one.

I've just been on the interNET TO look for a place like that. Then I had a rethink because there's no SAFEWAY to combine those purchases.

Im guessing there's not been much on UKTV the past few nights :)

I hate those silly windows they have after hours, you spend ages in a Q8ing to be served.

Funnily enough, 90% of the petrol stations here are unmanned card operated systems

I go back to 3/- a gallon( 15p to the children) When decimalisation came in what had been 3/6d (17 1/2P )Where's the fractions on a computer keyboard?) became 35p very soon. When gallons became litres the price was bound to go through the roof, well there are lots more to the gallon. Now I am grumpy so please don't remind me I was earning £20 a week. and my house cost £3000.
