Deans Marines SS HUDSON SOUND

(1/2) > >>

Bookerline:
Hi,

I'm new to Mayhem, well this kind anyway. Congratulations on an excellent site.

I am about to attempt to build the Deans Marine SS Hudson Sound kit, which is
a bit daunting as I have never attempted anything on this scale before. Although
the plans provided with the kit are excellent, I would like to get hold of some
photo's of the finished model to help me with the build.

Also, can anybody recommend any good construction books which would help me
with the assembly?

 ???

Shipmate60:
There are several books about building model boats, are you after specific information or just general building info?

Bob

Bookerline:
Hi Bob,

I have built a few plank on frame models before, but nothing in fibre glass
with plastic card etc. Any book which would cover the construction, adhesives
painting etc would be ideal. As far as this type of kit goes I am a total novice,
and I cannot have too much information.

thanks for contacting me

Best Regards,

Ken

Shipmate60:
Anything to do with the Hull, I always use slow setting Epoxy Resin, there is another thread about adhesives.
Plasticard, use your preference of plastic cement as for plastic kits.
I use superglue to "tack" pieces in place, ie the inwhales for the deck support, make sure the superglue has fully cured before epoxying into place as the superglue fumes will attack the epoxy, and gives off a cyanide base so do use on well ventilated areas.
Most people have their own favourite method, but I prefer the old belt and braces aproach to fitting decks.
Just ask on here for advice and see the number of answers you get, then take the one that suits you the best.

Bob

Hi Bob

Thanks very much for the information.
I'm off to the library to see if I can get some books out.

Cheers,
