Maybe YMCA but what is the object in black :o :}.   The red border is used on flag of serving  U.S. military family member but has a star or similar in centre.  Is that a torpedo or an airship I wonder ? {:-{

The subs flew a metal plate whereas surface vessels flew a proper flag

http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us%5Env.html sub in area.

Originally in - Hydrographic Office of the U. S. Navy, International Code of Signals, American Edition (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1923) plate II

W3bby
How do you do that?
How do you turn a link into words - but it's still a link?

I'm surprised we have to adjust the link to get a text for the link, most forums offer it directly you post a link.
Click the link button and you get [ url ][ /url ] Insert = after so you get [ url= and place in you link. Then add your text between ] and [/url]
[ url=http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/us%5Env.html ]like this[ /url ] (Extra spaces added round url so it is readable otherwise it tries to make a link....)

The arc extending above the ??? Horizon ???
suggests to me that this is a stylised icon and
is then perhaps commercial. I think it is / might
be associated with a company or even its registered
trade mark. Hopefully not a Mongolian beer Co.

Japanese, no.
Good to see the imagination flowing, definitely stylised.
European origin with Red Sea influence.

Just by the by, you are going to be  >>:-( >>:-( >>:-(  about this one. Stretching the rules a bit, think outside the box...... or was it on the box?

.......... Snowy .......was on the box/tv when I was a kid and I
remember the voice announcing 'Hergé's Adventures of Tintin'

So maybe that - but maybe you are even more cunning and it is
hinting at The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin, an American series also
on TV? There was nothing stylised about the latter though - so
for me it's back to Hergé'sTintin ..................but I don't recall
any flags at all.  {:-{

So I'll guess at the copyright owners Houseflag and search further

Dave

By the way I have just took a mouthful of coffee and grey primer -
I didn't realise how far the beeping spray had travelled. Yuk

You were nearly there Grey Lips, the Tin Tin clue sent me to the Khemed`s maritime police HQ  %% {-).   I did think it might be an anchor and that the link to the Red Sea was the Suez Canal , wrong track. The Herge hints gave it away .

They we go, it could also be recycled as "warning, plumber on site" as it could also be a stylised bum crack..... O0

Beaten by four minutes, somehow I got into listening to "Smoke on the water" instead of posting........ Still sitting, rocking, playing air guitar, drums and keyboard with the daughter seems somehow healthier and more meaningful....
