Insane isn't it. There were some arguments about being fake- it looks real to me as well.

Question is, was the "child" real  , and where was the falconer standing ?  Any birders recognize the species of "eagle" ?  More like a Condor  to me.  Seen a few Golden Eagles in my time.

If it was real was I the only person disappointed when it dropped the kid? I was really rooting for the eagle to at least carry him off into the blue yonder.

Well I was certainly surprised and made me wonder if it was genuine. Hard to believe a bird like that would have fluffed getting a good hold on a sitting target. Now if the kid had slipped out of his coat I'd have been more convinced ...

The makers of the video have come forward

Montreal's Centre NAD, a school that specializes in 3-D animation design, acknowledged that the video was made up in a production simulation workshop class by three of its students: Normand Archambault, Loic Mireault and Felix Marquis-Poulin. "Both the eagle and the kid were created in 3-D animation and integrated into the film afterwards," the school said in a statement.

Regardless of whether the video is real or not, Golden Eagles are well capable of pulling off such an attack. With a wing span any where from 6 to 8 feet for a mature bird they would have no trouble. The Mongols have used Golden Eagles for hunting for centuries and their birds will take on wolves.
One comment was that it was fake because the bird dropped to quickly on the attack. Raptors do drop like a stone on an attack. The wings fold back and then flare out a the last second. I've watched Red tail Hawks, on my farm, go for, and complete kills, they drop like a rock to the prey once the target in on it. Between them and Coyotes I can't keep a barn cat on the farm.

I was driving near Sequoia National Park, many years ago, and saw a Golden Eagle with a broken wing.
I tried to walk up to it and throw a blanket over it to take into the animal hospital but it ran away as fast as a velociraptor and jumped up into a tree and disappeared. I waited but never saw it again. These birds are very large. You dont know how large until you see one closeup. I had saved a hawk by covering it with a blanket and carrying it in a cardboard box to the hospital. The silver-colored kite hawk lived on my property, when it was injured, and the hospital returned it there when it recovered. I found a red-tailed hawk with a broken wing and called the humane animal society. They came out and shot it !
It made me so angry. This was before there was a raptor society in my area.
It amazes me how many raptors are around metropolitan areas in California. Cities now see them as pest control. They eat a lot of pigeons that would otherwise bury us in fertilizer. They don't call them flying poop houses for nothing. :^)

It may be worth pointing out that although raptors are large, they do not weigh a lot. Golden Eagles 6-12 pounds. Theoretically they can lift 3x their own body weight, but how far they could carry it is another matter.
However, they can kill larger prey on the ground and usually consume meat from that prey on the ground. I think I read somewhere that Golden Eagles can eat 3lbs of meat every day. In ecological terms, taking much larger prey than can provide the meat for one sitting is not a good strategy for survival.

A slight tangent, so a new post.

Coming from a seaside town, in the UK, I think that hungry gulls are a bigger threat to children than golden eagles. Specifically if the child is holding food. I personally have had food taken out of my hands by gulls, and it can hurt.
The chances of a raptor striking me are remote, beyond the realm of probability, as they are too busy being mobbed by gulls.

Yes. Most people don't realise how big many seagulls are until they get close up and personal.
