seaview sub
« on: December 22, 2012, 06:46:34 am »

Hi all
I have decided that my next project will be the seaview. Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting the 39 inch moebius kit and the casswell merriman fittings and running gear. Preferably from this country as I was hammered by customs on my last overseas order. Also I seem to remember that someone was doing a 6ft fiberglass seaview kit any ideas were to get one.
thanks ken

You can get the Moebius kit in this country from a few model stores.

Modelzone is one, Comet miniatures another.

Also ebay is a good source for these models.

AFAIK the Caswell kit is the only conversion kit on the market for this boat, it's that or it's DIY I'm afraid. If you know someone in the States who can act as a go-between, then that might help lower costs at your end, if you get my drift.

Large GRP Seaview hulls are made by Deboer. Lovely hulls from what I've seen, but the price will make you cough and splutter. Rick Teskey in Canada does larger Seaview hulls in various sizes, and supplies both four and eight window versions. The prices are lower than  Deboer, but will still be considerably more than a Moebius conversion. No website for Rick, but he does check in over at the Sub Committee and Sub Driver forums from time to time.

Thanks for that great info Andy
I like the one in the states not too dear when your used to buying Engle, but that said I will probably go down the mobi route.
Unless I find what I am looking for in the Uk. I do have a friend in Texas but the problem is then interstate tax and when it is sent there is still customs duty on a gift over £135 value you can lower the value but if it is lost you loose everything.
Is there anyway of getting a price for the caswell merriman upgrade as I keep getting directed to a caswell site that just seems to be about plating or something like that

The fittings kit is here-

http://www.sub-driver.com/fittings-kits/the-moebius-seaview-submarine-fittings-kit.html

The Sub driver/module for that kit is here-

http://www.sub-driver.com/sub-drivers/moebius-seaview-sub-driver-2.html

Not sure if Dave has done an SAS (no gas required) version of that module yet. Might be worth enquiring.

Chap over on the SubCom forum has an 80" Deboer Seaview up for grabs. Definitely more of a challenge than Moebius boat, but an impressive beast on the water.

Book yourself a cheap flight, have a holiday, and bring it back as checked baggage- probably be cheaper than shipping it.

Shipping big hulls overseas is tricky and costly business, so I can understand his reservations.

I think you mean 1/128th scale- a 1/28th Seaview would be a very large model indeed. The Moebius model was mentioned at the start of this thread, but Ken wants a GRP model, which I'm afraid do not come cheap.

Yes grp only for me as it needs to be at least 5ft or larger the price is not really an issue for the right model as the seaview has a very low profile it needs to be seen easily when its at  the surface by the local tug owners

Good morning gents! (at least its morning here, anyway!)

Just thought I'd chime in as I happen to have a DeBoer Seaview in storage at my shop that would love to see a new home.  Its the 58" long version and its been started but not completed.  It will need a bit of TLC, but its definitely not anything that can't be fixed up in short order.

You can see photos of it on my site at:  http://rc-sub.com/projects/viewproject.php5?id=42

I'd be willing to let it go cheap to free up the space.  $600 plus shipping.
Anyone interested can hit me up at bob(at)rc-sub.com

You won't get a better deal than that, Ken. Bob knows how to get a reasonable shipping rate too.
