« on: December 24, 2012, 05:14:20 pm »

Hello sundodgers everywhere,

Just a quick Sit-rep about the best sub event in the U.K (probably) This years Event is once again scheduled for the last weekend in July ( 27, 28 ) and as usual all types of  submarines and related vessels will be most welcome.

Llast years event was very well attended with over 50 visiting skippers and well over 100 subs unloaded from all sorts of vehicles. Many thanks to all who Participated. There was lots of subs and gear being sold/swapped,lots of questions being asked and advice given.Paul Cooks superb Gato was on patrol as well as an intriguing K class.Hope to see You all there again,

HI ADMIRAL
Would like to bring that 12FT sub of mine, to many things went wrong last year to be-able to come main problem was some body ran in to the back of the car and wrote it off. Think you said last year that you might be-able to organise a fork lift truck to get it in the water trying to get straps around it and man handling it to get it in the water would be impossible all it would take is for some one to slip and could end up with a lot of damage done to the sub or if it fell on some one it could course a bad injury as this thing weights around 500LBS which is not some thing you would won't to get in the way of. If we could not get it in the water then would just bring it as a static model on show.

WOULD LIKE TO SAY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERY ONE ON MAYHEM

Thanks for the interest guys,The event is being held at the Norwich Model Boat Clubs pond,Eaton Park,South Park Avenue,Norwich. Anyone interested in subs will be very welcome to attend.please see the clubs website for info and directions
The site address is norwichmodelboatclub.com
I can arrange a forklift truck for any large or heavy models so start prepping it up subjohn (yes I have a fork truck license)
As you old timers may be aware, the association of submariners have asked to use the clubhouse for their A.G.M
This is ok by us and we feel very honoured to host such an event
Once again all are welcome and we will provide whatever you may need to enable you to sail your boat at what is fast becomming a Mecca for U.K submariners

They've put up a link so you can purchase tickets to that event on their website.

Jolly nice of them to sell tickets for a free show! I'm sure 25% will go to charity though.

Hello All,

The event is on the 27th & 28th July 2013.

Its from 10am until 4pm officially each day, although i have been running this event since 1993, people are often there at 8am, and don't go home till 6pm if the weather is good!

Now regarding tickets to the FREE event.
I should point out at this juncture that i am not on the committee of the Norwich Model Boat Club, but i am one of 2 officers of the day that will run things - Admiral Donuts being the other.

The Norwich Model Boat Club, holds this FREE event every year, on a public pond in a public park that is open to the public 24 hours a day, the club has no facility to charge people to use the public pond that is in a public park and neither does Norwich City Council which maintains the park.

Please do not pay anyone for tickets to this FREE event, if so it is a CON!!

Hello all, heres a quick bit of info about the Norwich Model Boat Club Pond -

The pond itself, as far as we know, is one of the best purpose built model yacht ponds in the UK.  It was built in 1928 along with the yacht pavilion to sail the large vane type pond yachts that were around at the time. As time has gone on radio control has replaced much of that, however, there are still many families on a Sunday with the free sailing type yachts to be seen sailing from one side to the other.
The dimensions are as follows:-
Length:- 440 ft
Width :- 80 ft
Depth (Pavillion end):- 2.75 ft/3 ft
Depth (Lily Pond End) 3.25 ft /3.5 ft
Water content :960,000 gallons of fresh water.

It is the nicest pond, I know in the UK.
Having the water at waist height is great for heavy subs and their owners!
It is interesting that what was just right for Pond Yachts of the 1920's is just right for us.
Thanks to everyone at Norwich for making it available to everyone.

This may sound a bit cheeky, but is there anyone from my neck of the woods planning on going to the Norwich event, and would like some company? I don't drive anymore due to this damn RA, but if you'd like a large contribution towards your fuel costs, then let me know.

HI Paul
At the show at Norwich how much of the water will we be able to use in one of the pictures i noticed there was a floating buoy across the water, because that big sub of mine will soon cover that piece of water. Going by the depth of the water i should be able to go around at periscope depth and at the deep end should be able to sit on the bottom
    All the best John

Hi John, the picture with the boom in was taken on a normal club day, where scale models sail in the part of the pond in the foreground (in front of clubhouse), the fast stuff runs the other side.
On a submarine day, we reverse it and the subs use the bigger part of the pond, ALL surface craft that are club members are informed to please use the lower end of the pond.
I am quite strict on this!

Just a quick update, transport into the city centre can be arranged for anyone not sailing subs etc for sight seeing and shopping
Now the question is,do you tell the missus or save yourself some dosh, also models can be safely stored in the clubhouse overnight so this could save you some time and aggro if you are intending to stay over.
Traders will be very welcome and there is always lots of subs and gear being bought and sold from the backs of cars.
I always seem to come home with more than I took(except money of course)
Tea and Coffee is provided free, the clubhouse has its own kitchen complete with microwave.A shop and chippy are fifty yards away
Cars can be parked by the pond, the only condition is that the cars must be reversed up to the pondside
Looking forward to seeing you all

Just to keep you all up to date, the pond is looking good, the weather - beyond our control.
I have one request, many model submariners attend the once a year event, if you know anyone planning on coming with surface craft, we don't object to it, but if its a fast surface craft I will ask and in fact insist that its not run at all, PLEASE! Its a submarine event.
The odd tug, flower class corvette etc, no problem if controlled correctly and with respect to the model submariners.
