Great footage, Slug.
Brought back some horrible memories...........those shots of the old Tommy Hamlin oil burner (at about 11.35mins) rolling in the swell reminded me of the one and only trip I ever did to Icelandic waters as a "pleasurer" in aid of my final disitation at college in the early 70's.was mid summer, calm like that and I sat for 17 days behind the funnel on the old Wyre trawler from Fleetwood........ chucking my guts up....it was only when I was sailing up the river wyre that the bosun told me sarcastically that if I'd sat on the foc'sle I wouldn't have been smelling the diesel for that length of time and would probably been ok after a day or two.........don't know how those brave lads do it trip after trip, and especially in rough weather.......I really don't.

I Neil it was hard in those days no hydraulics to help with the hauling of the gear.

A bygone age NO quotas, and hardly any "unwanted catch" being thrown overboard. While the French fish right up to our coast and seem to take anything they want.

Think the Cochranes archive is in the Hull Museum Rod , Slug the Gaul was lost due to , of all things , defective offal dump chute valves. Her sisters all suffered from flooding in the processing deck because the flap gate was made from 2 types of metal that corroded and kept jamming the opening in the open position.
