Here is a view of her X turret ...........I do not understand the steel hauser cables over the twin gun mounts

probably not from a fishing hawser,I would have thought it would have shown some evidence of netting? Probably mast.funnel supports or signalling cables perhaps? They would have been as substantial as that shown. She was also fittet with de daussing cables,so could even been those.

...Thanks .....Neil suggests..."Possibly fishing hawser" & rottweiler questions "degaussing cables"

There is very little evidence of steel cabling on the other deck images and no mention in any text in the 243 pages

A closer view of the cable atwart ship close by the X turret barrels would suggest possibly an 8 strand multi core outer layer totalling approx 2" diameter or 6"+ circumference

This is a rather substantial sized hauser wire so I am discounting a wire from the aft mast and also de gausing cable coils which the latter to my understanding were modeled on what we now know high current welding cables.......super high numbers of very fine copper cores

looks very much like steel wires from the winches to the trawl doors of fishing vessels in that pic Derek......tons of the stuff litter Fleetwood docks even to this day, in rusty heaps.....used to load fathoms of it onto the old side winders in the 70's when I worked summer jobs..........like huge slinky springs if you got the motion correct from the back of the Cosalt wagon to the deck of a trawler, lol............but I don't know what rigging wires are like so can only hazzard an educated guess.
neil.........and I certainly don't wanna fall out with my mate Mick over what it is, lol %% %% %%

no argument Neil, just voicing my opinion,as are you,we may never know just what it is.I have PMd Derek re a video on sale on E bay, perhaps the commentary for that may give an insight.A fine ship, lost with a great loss of over 600 crew, the circumstances controversially, which again will never be solved.
