Painting/masking decks?
« on: December 28, 2012, 12:36:34 AM »

Just wondering the what is the easiest way to go about painting decks on my frigate, do i paint the deck and then mask or paint this buy hand later on.
Not sure which way to go and help will be appreciated.

Hi Chris,
Welcome aboard.

Could you clarify what you mean, a little, I am confused :embarrassed: .

Did you mean?
Do I paint the deck (spray?) before assembly, and then mask the deck when I paint the superstructure etc., or do I assemble the boat and paint the deck by hand later on.

Sorry my brain is still stuck in Christmas/holiday mode.

Hi Tiger
The boat is already assembled so i was thinking of spraying the deck first then masking it off and then paint the grey?
Just wondering if this is going to be the hard way or not.

How big is the boat?
How fine is your brush work?

Hi Chris

Now the complexity of the task can be seen, hopefully one of the expert painters and finishers on here can advise you much better than I could.

I would spray the model in a primer, followed by the main grey colour, then cut in the deck colour by hand, using a good quality fine point nylon brush. Just finished a repaint on an Archer Class and used  a similar method. Its easier to paint on a horizontal surface with a brush by hand, than a vertical one.
