hi guys .for some reason or another i keep breaking my t5 receiver  . or dropping them in the water or something . so im wondering if theres a cheaper alternative to buying  the t5 original receiverthats £15 ... and maybe something for cheaper  ...

I've been looking lately, as I keep having to change receivers between boats, but as yet I've found nothing.

I'm also looking for a cheaper and possibly more robust receiver.
One I had just fell apart and one failed to work.
 
I currently have 6 installed , all binded to a single TX which works very well but they are just a little expensive.

IMHO to try and knock a few pennies off what is already one of the cheapest parts of the whole model is a false economy, not to say a waste of time (unless you have plenty of it). In the UK, Servo Shop are selling the 6 channel 6gm Planet receivers at £67.50 for 5. That equates to £13.50 each - that's just two cans of Halford's spray paint or perhaps a moulded crew figure - while a new Futaba 2.4GHx Rx is almost £67.50 for one! Granted they are a little flimsy but perfectly adequate if you handle them with due respect, and if a new one either falls apart or refuses to work then you have every right as a consumer to either a working replacement or a refund.

Kenny - I wouldn't consider for a moment trying to convert another type to suit. Even if you understand microwave technology, the things are machine-assembled with such tiny surface-mount components that manual reworking without special (aka expensive) equipment would be impossible.

Complete Planet T5 combo for the cost of one Futaba receiver = No Contest !!!!
If you want a less flimsy receiver then they also do a 7 channel hard case receiver for £18 and it can bind to all of the Planet range.

I like the orange receivers from Hobbyking. These are Spektrum compatible, which used to mean you had to have a Spektrum TX to use them, but now you can get an Orange TX too, which is fully DMS2 compatible. Good spec too. Looks like a boiled sweet though!

It takes me months to get enough to save for 1 RX, and when it comes to it there's other things that money can go on...

I have run out of memories and a new Tx at that price is tasty

It takes me months to get enough to save for 1 RX, and when it comes to it there's other things that money can go on...

Point taken and no offence intended, but if four or five of you get together then you can effect a saving, if only a marginal one. When you are buying at the low end of the market there's precious little margin for further savings unless you are happy to buy used items. As for your comment that "there's other things that money can go on..." I think it should be obvious to anyone that any hobby which involves a degree of expenditure means that you have to prioritise your money. Grandmothers and eggs spring to mind.

I have a Futaba FASST Tx that I bought cheap (ish!) from Ebay. I did manage to afford a Futaba Rx for my first setup, but they are expensive.  Needing a second Rx, I bought one of the Orange equivalent which binds and works fine at a fraction of the cost . I also have a FrSky TRF8  Futaba version which is slightly more expensive than the Orange but works just as well
