So how accurate is the model? Have you been able to find any images to assist you?

Well I have had a little nose around and cobbled this together from a lot of places. She was the sixth ship to carry the name HMS Myrmidon and was an M Class, destroyer built by Fairfield, Govan yard number 676 laid down 07-Dec-1939, launched 02-Mar-1942, Propulsion: steam, turbine,
Engine is 2 x geared turbines, 2 Admiralty 3-drum boilers, dual shaft Tonnage: 1920 tons disp.  Length: 354 feet, Breadth: 37 feet Draught: 10 feet, 36.5 knots, 48,000 shp. Her armament shows as 6 × 4.7" guns on twin mount, 1 x 4" gun, 4 × 2 pdr. on quad mount, 5 × 20 mm mg, 4 x 21" T.T.

She was commissioned 05-Dec-1942 and was loaned to the Polish Navy in Nov-1942 before her completion and was renamed Orkan. So maybe there will only be Orkan photos anyway?

In early 1943, the destroyer escorted the convoy JW-53 to Russia, returned with the convoy RA-52 and then she operated as convoy escort in the North Atlantic. In July 1943, she transferred the body of the Polish Supreme Chief General Władysław Sikorskifrom Gibraltar to England. There must be a photo or news reel of that event.

Later in the year she was sunk in only a few minutes with a Gnat homing torpedo at 07:05 on 08-Oct-1943 by U-610 south of Iceland  during convoy SC143. 178 Polish crew were lost along with 20 British lost. One officer and 43 ratings were rescued by the HMS Musketeer (G 86) (Cdr R.L. Fisher, OBE, DSO, RN). The Orkan captain was Cdr Stanislaw Hryniewiecki  and her normal complement was 221~247.  Here is a long list of people associated with the ship and may provide a lead to more info http://www.uboat.net/allies/merchants/crews/ship3100.html She had had a previous close call  at 21.58 hours on 7 Oct, 1943, ORP when she  had been missed by a Gnat (from U-758 Manseck) that detonated in her wake.

The active time frame is quite short and the likeliest language to find her more detailed photos  might be Polish - family snaps etc.  Might need a Polish speaking member to have a root about? I did find a half decent close up shot at http://gcaptain.com/frogman-comics/ pre camouflage too. Then below that is the usual shot of her.

Just found the photo for sale £5 at http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=350459418656

Now the ships crest is £65 to buy but you can copy the image for free at http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=300775727575

Dave ... Time for a cuppa tea

You Tubes "the suspicious death of general Sikorsky part 3" at about 6mins 50 seconds shows your ship for a few seconds and proves there is a film to seek out and the uk bit seemed very clear too. So any sight of the ship on that would be useful.

Sorry no actual link - an iPhone and You Tube thing. Just found this? http://www.britishpathe.com/video/general-sikorski-and-the-polish-navy

Just found nice fact about the name orkan. The polish word orkan in English means hurricane lol. Must have been a really effective ship
