Been there done that. They have a web page. As do Frontline Hobbies in Newcastle.

It's the same in Brisbane. Even if you find some bits here in OZ, they cost the earth, so I buy overseas.

Went to Hobby One, (Brisbane) just after Christmas to pick up one of the Russian destroyer RTR kits for my son.

All sold out, Oh no not getting anymore  <:( <:( <:( <:(

As for boat bits, props, etc, zilch, planes an cars, heaps of stuff. >>:-( <*<

Bob,

Haven't dealt with either, but have been looking at dealing with 'harbor'

If you are going to be buying any 'Action' gear, which I have, I would deal direct. However the business has changed hands so don't know about new owners.

The biggest problem with UK suppliers, unless they categorically say so, is they still charge the 20%'Tax' (VAT) where we should get a deduction. >>:-( <*< Also they mainly use airmail which costs the earth.
I always ask first is VAT deducted and what other means of delivery, namely cheaper forms is available.
Then and only then do I deal.
You will see a lot of commentary about A, B & C are good to deal with etc but I disregard them as that is from those buying locally which includes EU.
Which reminds, me some UK suppliers, which includes those who only do mail order, won't post outside the European Union/UK.

The Hong Kong suppliers offer alternate cheaper methods of delivery for 'Big' articles such as  Italeri, 1/35 Vosper MTB, &  Italeri 1/35 Schnellboat.

http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?search=Y&q_brand=ITA&q_category=WS&q_scale=35&q_word=&q_show_instock_only=N
Not to mention they are also far cheaper.

Good Day Bob
Cornwall Model Boats are good suppliers, most of my parts are supplied through them, they don't charge the VAT for overseas orders, and you can choose the postage service you want to use.

Just a question out of interest from a UK reader......
I thought Melbourne has a large model club. Don't they have the 1/72nd Warship section? Where do they buy their bits'n'pieces from? BY.

Float a Boat had what I wanted when I went to Melbourne. They have a weird ordering system though. They emailed an order form which I filled in and then had to fax it to the shop. Had to find a post office in Orange with a fax to send the order. Order then checked by phone call from shop then posted to Wodonga where I was staying. It saved postage to uk and duty.

Good Day Bryan

I'm a member of Task Force 72 (Perth), unfortunately, the way things/people are going, they don't have time or want to build/make models anymore, they're only interested in already build and ready to use models (usually planes/helicopters or buggies), so the hobby shops won't buy bits that may sit on their shelves and not be bought. Perth doesn't have any serious maritime hobby shops. I buy my hulls/semi kits from A.P.S Models in N.S.W and Southern Cross Models in Vic, all the other parts are sourced from England through various suppliers.

The new owners of ACTion electronics, are great people to deal with, fast service, their battery prices can't be beaten, & to top it off they do not charge VAT & their shipping rates are first class. Iain is very helpful at all times, you will be happy with their prices & service & best of all Dave the previous owner of ACTion is still on their staff on a part time basis. Cornwall is much the same ,very good service & also good pricing, talk to Malcolm for any help you might need. I am speaking from experience with both companies, they have both supplied me with parts when needed & no hassle. If you use ACTion electronics you will be very happy with the quality & the performance, no connection to either company, just a satisfied customer that believes in promoting companies that give good service. Yes, Float a Boat have much more stock than is in their web catalogue including props. Contact Rhonda or Adrian.
I have also had excelent service from Cornwall Model Boats.   The saving in VAT usually more than offsets the postage.
Task Force 72 sail at Albert Park lake on the first Sunday in the month and there is the Surrey Hills Model boat club near Box Hill who sail each Sunday and often on Wednesdays.

Hi Shrimper just email them & they will help you. Depending on what you order they will give you the shipping costs, all very easy to do, I live in Canada & never have had a problem. Sometimes I phone, (it is cheap from Canada only 5 cents a minute. Check it may be cheap from Australia as well. Mick B. (dont forget the time difference if you phone, even the nicest people don't like ringing phones at 3AM in the morning)

As Mick said ACTion belong to Component Shop now and here's the link http://www.component-shop.co.uk/ I'm sure they would love to hear from you. As for props I buy from Prop Shop at http://www.prop-shop.co.uk/ and they are the dogs bollx. Also they will advise you on the best product to suit your set up. I sent an email giving details of my boat and saying what I'd like: they then made suggestions and completed quite quickly. Love this supplier 100%  :-))

Especially for "Thunderchild", but with wider implications.
I sympathise with you regarding the the trend to buy already built boats/ships, buy "kits" etc.
We at Tynemouth have perhaps 100 members. Probably 10 or 15% of them are only interested in Straight Running or Power. The remainder is about split between Scale and Curved Wind.
So I'm probably looking at around 30 people max. who consider themselves part of the "scale" fraternity. Out of this lot we perhaps have 8 to 12 dedicated "scratch builders". The remainder buy kits or simply buy something. The latter group (in general) have no idea whatsoever about "their" model beyond the basics. That is, they do know the difference between a Tug, a Liner or a trawler (a generic term here). Ask what scale it is and the chances are the question will be answered with a blank look of total incomprehension. BY.

Bob,

That sounds a reasonable delivery cost, does it include any weighty items.

NOT really
the motor and 6.1 gear box would be the heaviest i would think my be a kg all up in a 15"x 10"box ?

when i clicked on the TACK TIC RX  TX for $ 79 it jumped the shipping up by $37 so i might  get that from here for $89 on eBay (still $37 shipping
so ill decide when i get to that stage ) floataboat have got one( HITEC 5 ) comes with 4 servos for $159

http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/ ship to New Zealand, so I cannot see why they wouldn't ship to Austrailia. Great products. Very good service. Very good delivery. I cannot fault them at all.
I have purchased 3 times now. I am very Impressed.

That depends on your preferences, what motor you fit and on the voltage required by any extras you use.  To store the same amount of energy, they both weigh exactly the same.  To produce the same power, a 6 volt motor on 6 volts needs to pull twice the current of the same power 12 volt motor running on 12 volts.
