hello there fellow model boater's, I made a start on my new loyal class today, i am lucky enough to have a model slipway loyal and a smaller models by design, loyal, its taken me almost 2 years to work my way through the larger model, however its nearing the end and ive started on the smaller one.
iknow some of you are saying, " finish the one your doing before you start another one" .. and in all fairness i should, but im excited to finally start it. ive had the smaller compact kit for just over a year, and pritty much just opened the box, now it looks like your adverage compact kit, "HOWEVER" most of you have built some of the model slipway compacts and they are just "MINT". upon opening up the box all you have is a set of plans and your modeling plastic for the hull ECT, there were no instructions with the kit witch was a small set back, however you can improvise, i still have all the instuctions from the larger MS loyal so i am using those as a rough guide. attached is a photo of my ms loyal followed by 3 photos of the compact loyal

I would be interested in seeing your pictures.... they don't seem to have uploaded though.  With regard to finishing one model before starting another... everyone here seems to have at least five models on the go at any one time... so I wouldn't worry about two.  :}

I look forward to watchng this build.  I have contemplated a few times getting the 1/48th ex Metcalfe Mouldings now Models by Design but never got round to it.  Sometimes the smaller size models of popular craft get overlooked and people go for the big ones.  I have a Sirmar 1/48th HDML which is imho a lovely little boat.  I dont think Sirmar do it any more, I think it stopped a long time before the business changed hands but even when it was available, most builders opted for the 1/24th version.

Notice your post says photo's of the larger and smaller attached but I cant seem to see them?  Upload issues?

using the plans provided i established that to get the correct curve of the hull i could use a 2cm long and 2cm high piece of cardboard, prop it on the decking inlay, and drew a line.

moving on the deck, i copied the plans and transfered a picture of the deck onto the cardboard, then drawing around the cardboard onto the 1mm plastic card. then i cut out the hull openings, and glued the props for the superstructure, centre and forward structures.

no they have not discontinued this one, this is the models by design compact loyal class, scale 1/42, "however" the did discontinue the model slipway loyal, if what i have been told is true, it should be back up for sale soon, (it has gone under the knife) so to speak.

 models by design compact loyal class, scale 1/42,
Dan, If I remember rightly the Models by design Moderater is built to 1:50 scale.......I made it ( the plug and moulds) for a mate many years ago when he was the RNVR Captain of the vessel. He( the ship ) was based in Liverpool at the time and he being my ex metal work teacher from my school days put the screws on me to make it, but the only plans he could come up with were the official RN ones that had been given with the actual vessel, and including lines and GA I made it for him at the 1:50 scale supplied.........so you're looking for 1:48/1:50 scale fittings.
I passed the moulds on to Metcalf mouldings years ago

Does the plan set include templates for the superstructure, deck and companionway parts etc?

Ah I thought so.  I recall when you first got your MS Loyal and you had got a state of the art sound system to go in her and we discussed how to fit it?  Did you carry on with the installation?  Looks like your MS puffer in the pic from a few regatta's ago.  Havent seen you at recent regatta's but good to see your still building.
