Could members please choose an Avatar for their profiles

that is NOT the same as one allready in use.

The AVATAR is the picture by which we recognise each individual

member,  and should be specific to that member only.

I hope this isn't too-stupid a question, but what are Avatars actually for?

There are a load available in the Forum Profile section of your Profile Settings, or you can do as Neil says, and find/resize use your own image, and...

...whilst, I can understand how they may help with quick recognition of established (mis)users...

Why?

I personally find them useful when scanning down a long post.....I can spot the people to ignore O0

...they are apparently an optional feature, not a compulsary one...

Why ?.
As people tend to change the pictures anyway.

...so I still don't really know what they are about?!  {:-{

OK, Kenny - job jobbed. It fits my Forum name and is certainly unique. Hope it helps...............
BTW I was automatically allocated an avatar when I signed up - something to do with Mondeos. I had to remove it. Maybe a system problem?

I think what Ken originally meant was that when choosing an avatar it should be different from anyone else's, as there were numerous instances of the same avatar appearing against different member's names. I'm willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.

Ken,
Without trolling through the whole member list, how can we tell if anyone else has the same avatar if it is one downloaded from the tinternet.
I'm pretty sure that mine is unique , but when you check the avatar list it is possible to pick one that is already in use
BTW who gets to claim the England flag as there are quite a few and they do look the same upside down in the UK too Artygunner.

I must admit, I did wonder about a moving avatar and have thought about using this one...

I just need to know what pitch your props are Ken, so I could be sure to make mine different!  %%
