Steam ferry
Both boats scratch built by local model maker William (Bill) Richmond and both RTR

Hi Willie,

I wish I had a baker's round here that displayed such fine model ships.

Next time you pop in for the rolls could you please inquire the name of the beautiful 70's cargo liner (that should be fairly easy by looking at the bow) and where and when it was built.

And of course, I'd love to see some more (close-up?) photos (stern and bow, underwater hull, prop rudder arrangement, but likewise decks with loading gear and superstructure) of that model, if this was possible.

Nice models, the cargo ship looks like one of the massive fleet of United Arab Shipping, the stulkan derricks are very familiar, and some of them also had cranes fitted in lieu of all derricks, though the funnel isn't UASC.

Well havent been to the bakery since but was speaking to the builder today , the cargo boat is a collaberation of 3 types of 69's style cargo vessels Benline and Glen Line and another which I have forgotten, he took the best bits of the trhee  and drew the drawings up himself before scratch building it, It comes in three pieces the Hull ,Deck and Wheelhouse/deckhouse and weighs 45kg unballasted ,Over the sailing time this vessel has had 400 miles of travel in its own loch , no boating ponds in Skye but this is where it was sailed

The pictures dont do the boats justicwe , the baker is only the owner not the builder, didnt realise they were bread and butter , should have guessed being in a bakery lol, is that method any good to build

The "Kit Wing 11" was seen at many shows in Merseyside and the North West of England during the 70's/early 80's. I shall be on Skye in the next two or three weeks so I shall have reacquaint myself with it.

We were staying in a stunning house "The Hen House" in Fiscavaig so the weather did  not bother us at all.  There was a thunder storm the night we arrived and the power went out!

Great baker though.  The only one I have ever been in with a display of model boats!
