Robbe Kompact Motors
« on: January 21, 2013, 11:41:12 am »

Can anyone tell me why the instructions with the Robbe Kompact motors is to remove the "soft iron" casing and "keep them carefully".  Why take it off and do I at some point have toput them back?
Regards

Is this on a gearbox or shaft/gearbox combo? If so, it could be down to a fit problem regarding diameter of the motor. The iron rings concentrate the magnetic effect back into the motor armature, if you remove them you will notice the motor rpm increases slightly, I cannot remember if there is a corresponding increase or decrease in current drain as its been quite a while since I last tried it. If you are running a reduction geared set up, you may be better off with the slightly increased rpm at the motors output, before it enters the reduction drive. As for looking after the rings 'carefully', its that or looking after them carelessly! Surely a better option :}

As unbuiltnautilus has already said thr "Flux or Torque rings" concentrate the magnetic field giving more torque.
In a reduction gearbox the torque is multiplied by the gear ratio (less frictional losses) so these rings not needed.
Look after the rings carefully in case you want to fit them to the motor.

But you do have to remember where they were carefully stored.

Humm, good point, I think I also need to label them so that I don't "find" them and use the for something else one day %%
