Memories of RMS St. Helena
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:30:59 am »

Here is a short slide show of my 11 years in the tiny British passenger liner RMS St. Helena.     With a gross tonnage of 3,150, she had a length of 300 feet.    We carried 76 passengers and general cargo from Avonmouth, UK, down to Cape Town via the Canary Islands, Ascension Island and St. Helena Island, with occasional calls at Tristan da Cunha.     Our main purpose was to supply the British Colony of St. Helena, that hasn't got an airstrip!

That's nice to see again Bob, I've not seen that for a while. A good friend of mine had a family that came from St Helena and occasionally I took him to the boat when he was off paying the family a visit down there, travelling along with you on that very ship, I know he used to love the journey there and back too, the world isn't so small when you travel journeys like that by sea instead of air......  :-)

Thanks,
They were indeed happy years and she was my favorite ship of all 19 that I sailed in!
