Calypso Its standard practice to launch sideways if it is on a narrow waterway - though perhaps not on the
River Soar in your part of the the world.

almost all if not all of the trawlers and other ships that Cook Welton and Gemmell at Beverley in Yorkshire built were launched sideways....and then with the bigger of the trawlers it might take upto 3 high tides to get them down the river from Beverley to Gemmell and Frow at Hull where the engines, winches and final fitting out was carried out
