Aluminium Mesh
« on: January 30, 2013, 12:42:18 pm »

Hello,
Does anyone here know where I can obtain square mesh aluminium sheet?
Its easy enough to find round mesh but for some reason square mesh is rather elusive?
Size of mesh would be around 3-4mm sq.
Many thanks.

Brass mesh here http://www.model-dockyard.com/acatalog/Scale_link_Mesh.html

Google 4mm square mesh and different materials including galvanised come up.

Must it be aluminium?

do you definately need Alluminium.

I have some woven mosquito net with square mesh  a little smaller or some garden mesh that I bought some years ago from a garden centre with 3mm square mesh......these are easily available from hardware/diy/garden centres.

Ah, that's a grating rather than a mesh I think.
My thought would be to look to supplies for old wooden sailing ships, find a suitable size/stye in wood and paint it silverish.

you can buy a similar material from tapestry and cross stitch craft shops..it is plastic but can be painted..a lot of people use it for gratings and it comes in varying sizes depending on the cross stitch you are doing........My wife used to use it for her stitching

Yes, you're right! Its grating. Wood may be the answer......thank you.

for sewing bits?
We have them down here -don't know about up North tho?

this is a bit of a wild card ,but there is a firm called F H Brundle,
www.fhbrundle.com who do mesh of all sizes, and all mateirials, we use them  as a supplier at work for very fine brass mesh, - but they do  big mesh panels for fencing too and everything in between - sorry i dont have time to trawl through their website but may be worth doing to see what they have...

Yes, Brundle do supply this mesh, however only in
2 x 1mtr sheets! £56. Just called them.
Rather more than I need!
It remains elusive....thanks anyway!

Neil,
To be honest I was looking to find a supplier so that
I could have some to hand in stock. 6sq inches would be
fine but only if you have it spare.
Many thanks.
