Pro Boat Volere 22
« on: January 31, 2013, 08:41:30 am »

Anyone know anything about the ProBoat Volere 22? Are they worth buying? I quite fancy one, nice looking boat.

SMC are selling the 2.4gHz version for £185.

The Volere 22 - Hope you enjoy your new purchase. Be aware these are very small boats and getting your fingers inside to work on them requires some patients and a few small tools. The hardest thing I found to deal with was trying to make a rudder horn adjustment. Some of the details on the boat are plastic and are fragile. Be sure to inspect yours when it arrives. There is a very thin plastic antenna that will break if you look at it wrong  :((
I got one when they were first released, ended up selling it replacing it with it's big brother the Proboat Classic Runabout - which is about 30" or 762mm appox. Lots more room inside should one opt to make modifications. I liked the Volere and in it's original set up performed to expectations, just a bit small for my needs. Sadly both of these boats have been discontinued by Horizon Hobbies/Proboat here in the U.S.
The larger boat's have become collector's items now and fetch a handsome price on E-bay and the various RC forms here.  Posted a couple pictures of the larger version for you to contrast your new boat. Both nice looking models.

 :-))
Enjoy

The Volere has just arrived, all packed safely and all in one piece. First glance...a nice little boat, well built, w/cooled 550sized  motor, even an oiler tube fitted to the propshaft. All the fittings fit neatly and securely, and the seats look very good in their white imitation leatherette material. No marks, dings or dents anywhere, and the varnished wood looks really well done.

The supplied charger isn't a lot of use to me, but I can charge the battery pack with my Graupner Multilader charger, so no problem there.

Just one problem...the rx wire is nearly a foot long(2.4gHz?)and looks horrible poked out through the stern deck, it looks like a multirace boat. Something will need to be done to alter that.

A nice clip together stand is supplied, just a drop of cyano to secure everything is needed.

I'm looking forward to using this, it should look quite nice out on the water.

Stand by for a 'on the water' report.

This is the second aerial wire problem today.

If it's that's long then it's not 2.4 Ghz

Easy enough to change the R/X to 2.4  (assuming you've got one)

The tx states "2.4gHz", the box states "2.4gHz", can't see the rx 'cos it's sealed in a rubber balloon.

If it's 2.4 ghz then the length would be 1/2 inch, so I'm a bit confused as to the extra wire?

Perhaps they realised it was too low in the boat. You may need to fit the R/X up as high as possible with it's  'short'  aerial.

Any pictures ?

If the antenna has the last half inch of outer insulation stripped back it will be 2.4GHz and it doesn't matter
Too much about the res of the wire
Only the last bit is the bit that receives the signal.
As long as the end is high as possible in the boat
you should have no trouble Rich

The active part of Spektrum 2.4GHz antennas is around 31mm long (1/4 wavelength). The extra length on the MR200 antennas is coax.

Proboat sold this boat with a 27mhz radio according to their web site http://www.proboatmodels.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdId=PRB3050
Unless the seller upgraded this boat the long antenna suggests at least the receiver is the older style - suggest not cutting that antenna if it is the older 27mhz set up.
I copied this text from that page and the picture shows a 27mhz radio
Features
  • No assembly required
  • Real wood trim layered on a hand-crafted fiberglass hull
  • Pro Boat® AM 27MHz radio system included
  • Installed electronic speed control with reverse
  • Includes a 8.4V 1600mAh battery for longer run times
  • Water-cooled 550-size motor

And with 2.4GHz radio gear (Spektrum MR200 receiver) according to HH UK - http://horizonhobby.co.uk/marineonline/b1_proboat/b1_scale/b1-prb3050/b1-volere.html  :-) .

From the images available online, the Spektrum receiver has a long aerial, certainly more than the anticipated 1/2" aerial mentioned earlier in the thread.
